  • 1cm spacer and longer bolts?

  • I go away on holiday on Thursday so doubt I'll get it sorted before then. The adapter is relatively cheap and easy to source though. The main frustration is the short cable as it is annoyingly close, just not long enough to wrap the tape properly.

  • Subbed.

Would be curious if they can do something similar to the kinesis tripster. i.e. nice big clearance for 47mm 650b tyres.

  • They'll build you whatever you ask em!

I measured mine and everything was correct for what I asked. The bottom bracket and headset both installed no issues.

  • I guess the challenge is figuring out a good geometry.

  • You never had a frame that fit you perfectly? Copy that :)

  • You know you can’t leave it (the cable) like that or it’ll haunt you till the end of it’s days!

  • I've emailed them to start the ball rolling. My main concern is knowing how to spec the different tube types/diameters - the combination of these is pretty crucial to ride feel. Do you get these options and if so, how did you go about deciding on these?

  • Yeah definitely going to get a longer cable sorted. The shifters and brakes actually came from @motoko but were set up European style, when I'd switched them over there just wasn't quite enough length.

  • I'm confused with the cable situ. Was it already cut/ from a previous build?
Looks great though. Do you have a rough build cost yet?

  • I'd recommend asking to speak with Amy at Waltly (she was my point of contact and excellent) there are a few of them in the customer service team and I believe you deal with the same person throughout the build. They can recommend tube types and diameters but equally you can send them what you'd like. Quite a few titanium frames list exact spec so you can get a good idea. I largely went with their recommended tubes and then sense checked them against other frames.

It's good to try and have a pretty good idea of what you want from the frame before you email them, try not to make loads of changes to spec as you go to save confusion.

  • Sorry about that. :/

  • Yeah second hand shifter and brake set which were already cut...

Cost is significantly less than a Planet X Tempest would have been, with the added benefit of having better components across the board and custom geometry.

  • Haha it's fine, only one cable :)

    I should have realised

  • Ah rear? I had it in my mind as the front. I guess I'd divided the mount and cable issue as two things.

That's great. I'm really impressed with it. Hopefully it's as much fun as it looks!

Edit; side note Evans were terrible for tracking down an adapter, the website availability check was farcical

  • You were correct

Mount issue is rear and cable issue is front!

Only slight annoyance is how close the disc rotor sits to the front fork, it's super close. Although that is no fault of Waltly!

  • Very poor quality phone pictures showing the closeness of the rotor to the fork leg. Any suggestions how to resolve this / is it an issue as long as it doesn't rub...

  • Hmm does look very close. I'll have a look at mine when I get in.

  • The clearance on my rose front disk is only 2-3mm, rear is about 5mm

  • It's around 1mm it's so close that If I use the centrelock to 6 bolt adapter on the hunt wheels it doesn't fit and rubs. I wondered if there was anyway to put spacers on the thru axle as it only gets close when fully closed and tight.

  • That'll rub when out the saddle

  • That is the fear - not sure what the fix is or why it is so close though?

  • 6 bolt hub? Smaller rotor?

  • That doesn't look so bad to me; it seems closer on the fork of my rando bike and I don't have any rub even when out of the saddle (steel fork and QR axles too)

Try it first, maybe it's not a problem?

  • I don't think the rotor size will make a difference as it is also really tight at the bottom of the fork (where a reduced 140mm disc would still rotate in). I'd also really not have to replace the hubs.

I've contacted the fork manufacturer regarding the issue to see what they say!

If I could put a spacer between the inside of the dropout and the wheel axle that would push the rotor away from the fork leg a bit. I don't know if such spacers exist though
