  • Roads are super greasy at the moment but(damp with lots of salt). New tyres might not be any better.

  • What about the Gravel King in 26mm?

@umop3pisdn is right, road is pretty greasy in the last couple of weeks, even my massive 38mm sometime lose a bit of grip.

  • Yes the roads are greasy. It time for pave tubulars or irc rbcc tyres. Oddly I am finding my conti gatorskin tubulars quite grippy, slow but really sticky.

  • Yeah, that's a good point.

After coming off a few weeks back, I have it in my head that these tyres don't grip in the wet. Probably they are no worse than any other similar tyre.

  • You’re probably doing this already, but if not then maybe lower your psi to get a bigger tyre surface when you’re riding. Every little helps as they say.

  • I've gone down to 85/90.

I know that's still quite high, can't quite convince myself to go lower.

  • Very high, I guess it probably stem from decades of riding high pressure tyres that it reach to the point of it feeling perfectly normal.

  • So...

90kg human, 25c tyres. Recommend me pressure and I will try it.

  • This.

Try 75/80, would go lower, but always best to start small.

  • lower than that always resulted in punctures and dented rims for me (with same tire width and body weight)

  • dented rims

send bills to scoble for full reimburse

  • Anybody have the chance to try out the Gravelking Mud tyres (33 or 35mm variants)? 40mm SKs were a bit crap in the mud for me recently (probably just me, not the tyres TBH) so thinking of trying them out.

  • Sk are not grear in mud. Not just you.

  • Alright just ordered a pair so might get to try them out later in the week.

GK tyres are still only 20eur each over at probikeshop, not the full range and no brown but still pretty much a bargain on the ones they do have.

Hopefully for these Mud ones too.

  • Learnt about the grip limits of the Vittoria Hypers this morning.

A large portion of user error - got up out of the saddle coming off a speed bump at an angle and think I hit a patch of ice. Annoying as I'd been super cautious in general, particularly around metalwork, so wasn't prepared for the front wheel to slip out on the tarmac.

Damage report minor, thankfully, although I now have a headache, arm ache and leg ache. I've sharpied the rash to my already grazed brifter and I'm confident the wife has the sewing skills to repair a 1cm cut in my windblock jersey.

Almost lost the back wheel in Victoria Park shortly after - that was going in a straight line when I hit the anchors around a lurching jogger. In general I have noticed the rear wheel does tend to lock way before the Kojaks used to, but I suppose this is to be expected with a harder compound. I have certainly noticed far, far less debris becoming lodged in them.

  • To be fair, on ice you test the grip limits of most tyres. Heal up soon.

  • It looked like a dusting of frost, rather than a patch of black ice or something, but yeah, I probably would have slipped whatever the tyre.

  • Anyone got any experience with these Fairweather for CX?

  • They're made by panaracer and look like a chunkier gravel king, I'm sure they will be good.

Will get clogged with mud though i expect if you're planning on using in current conditions.

  • Recently fitted a set of 700x25 Michelin power competition tyres (it's summer down here!) They rode well but have only lasted 500klms. The bloody sidewalls are paper thin and seem to cut through if you look at them. Also puncture through the side wall with blades of grass! I'm not even joking. So in the bin go $100 worth or tyres.

I had better luck with my veloflex masters. What should be on the shopping list? Must be supple, must be grippy and also run true to a 25mm size on 17mm internal rims.

  • GP4000 SII?

In "fast vs shit vs money" terms, they're hard to beat.

  • Any experience?

  • Apparently cut up v easily. But nice while they last

  • Sounds about right. Think it's either those or another set of Vittoria open pave if I can still get them.
