BTW, I have absolutely no doubt that nothing has been done on microcosm without thought.
But new ideas can sometimes be new.

People saying "new page fail" isn't due to ignoring stuff, it's because they're daft and think others can't go between 2 pages, the fact it's not a new page for everyone just means it's an even more pointless thing to say. The always showing the last 25 posts thing would stop people saying "new page fail" but sounds like it'd break other stuff.
-
• #6629
Would it break that much? Almost all pages would remain exactly the same, but the "last" page would be a kind of dynamic page that either showed the actual page if there were 25 posts on it, or a combination of the last and penultimate (or more with a big ignore list) page making the total posts up to 25 on the last page at all times. No idea if that's doable, and not bothered by changing it.

Might be weird if your last viewed was 26 posts from the final post so your next page click reloads almost the same page but with one more post at the bottom.
-
• #6631
Can't we have 531 posts per page? I mean, it's a much more sensible suggestion that most things on the last page. :)

@snottyotter has summed up how I understand it. I don't actually care, I just think Velocio is overplaying the significance of the users who ignore people. That's not really the reason for the original point by mashton.
-
• #6633
I also don't care, but don't think the idea was understood properly, and am bored.
-
• #6634
TBH I don't care either.

I don't care more.

A miniscule numbers of users, who by their own action create a slightly different pagination for them. Yet navigation wise this doesn't even break things... all links to comments will calculate which page to send you to and get you to the right place.
I'm obviously not understanding this right, I sent people to
https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/133015/?offset=105750#comment12718409
but anybody who doesn't bother to ignore the two or three most egregious trolls actually needs to be sent to
https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/133015/?offset=105800#12718409
so to link to a specific comment in context, I have to first check what page it's on for people who are viewing a complete comment stream, and then create a link which will be wrong for anybody who has a non-zero ignore list? -
• #6637
Your links are over-complicated. All you need is:
https://www.lfgss.com/comments/12718409/
No need for the offset bit. (If people want to read that bit of accompanying thread, they can.)

• #6638
Yup, next to every post is a permalink.
Pagination can vary, permalinks always work.

I thought you were implying in your earlier post that microcosm fixed the issue where some users have a different pagination. As you know, vbulletin does this by not having a thread or offset value in a link to a post in context, e.g.
http://vbulletinforum.not-a-real-tld/showthread.php?p=12718409#post12718409
calculates which thread and which page to go to based just on the unique post ID and the user's ignores/posts per page settings. I thought microcosm was supposed to avoid the bugs in vbulletin, not the features :) -

I've only ever seen a "new page fail" at the top of a new page. I don't ignore anyone. (Church of moocher is a broad and expansive church.)
Does this mean that people who do ignore others never type "new page fail" ? -
• #6641
I imagine they are less likely to as they are more likely to have seen bogus ones.
-
• #6642
New Page fail.
-
• #6643
I'm going to just start randomly posting them.
-
• #6644
Dang, another new page fail. Would you fucking believe it?
-
• #6645
I ignore people, but I never type "new page fail", because it's stupid, up there with typing "first" under a blog post.
-
• #6646
I don’t do it but with the form of replies/quotes on here and the fact you often have to re-read the original post to make sense of things, it’s understandable.
-
• #6647
I wondered who was gonna be the first to say it. Velocio will never admit that reply threading is even slightly borked on microcosm.
-
• #6648
And that's the sound of me unsubscribing from this thread and placing it on ignore.
Do go think about how this stuff should work and try and solve all of the issues and inconsistencies. When you fail to please all, come back and let me know and I may start giving a shit about issues people are actually having.

The XDA-Developers forums repeat the last comment on page N as the first comment on page N + 1.
It's really fucking annoying, especially when you get a quotestackoverflow.

Reply threading works fine once you know to click the thingy to open up the post being replied to, then clicking the woojamaflip to go back further.
Good reasons there for not doing it.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.
