Isn't there a reason shocks have a pivot at both ends?
Yes. And that's why on this frame the chainstay has a pivot at both ends.
Mac Strut and Monoshock designs do away with one of the pivots; either the shock is rigidly connected to the frame (mono) or the link is rigidly connected to the shock (mac).
