Any idea what the extra brackets on the front wheel are? joining the QR and Pizza rack, for looks like extra mounting.

Maybe running massive front panniers.

I went for dt shifters on my lht, makes bar swaps easy and cheaper and has worked flawlessly for 8yrs use and loads of touring. Dura ace/deore mix 4lyf

It was more of a throwaway comment about the rider's flexibility than a dig at DT shifters. If you need a massive stack, there are more ergonomically suitable shifting methods, but - yeah - not really important.
