  • No, fine on protein front but find straight after a long ride a protein powder based drinks really helps with recovery.

  • You have problems recovering quickly as a vegan?

  • Iceland's mince pies are vegan and are very good.

  • Falafel review: Shwarma - Camberwell.

Iconic falafel joint in SE London. The falafel is good. Cooked well with minimal spices / herb interventions. Few sesame seeds on top. The sauces make it. The hummus is really good, smooth, silky and seasoned really well with enough oil. Chilli is warm not overpowering. Garlic not vegan as Its mayo based.

Go for a carrot / ginger juice to wash it down or a mint tea.

    8.5 / 10 would falafel again.

  • Those are some strange looking Falafels.

  • Full of healthy non-haem iron!

  • Finally the vegan thread is coming to camberwell!

Iconic indeed, the guy who runs it has seen my son grow up. Always hands out falafels to the young'uns.. probably sees it as an investment ;)

Should deffo go for a wrap next time you're in the area

  • Hey, I've been here before. Maloko across the road that does vegan savoury crepes, but the one time I went they weren't particularly amazing.

I accidentally found myself outside Young Vegans the other week - the seitan and ale pie was really, really good (especially on a very cold night) and I will definitely be making the effort to stop by regularly.

  • Yes may8, I’ll give you a text

  • Not heard of young vegans. But next time I’m in the areas - will check it out

  • You clearly haven't been to any vegan markets--they've been at just about every single one.

It looks as if Camden is going to become a bit of a hotspot for vegan food shops:

A pop-up but still another shop:

  • Thanks for that. Always an education Oliver

  • Deutsche Gründlichkeit.

  • ... and it looks as if Hackney Central is getting its second vegan shop:

    http://fatgayvegan.com/2017/12/01/breaking-news-donut-diner-to-open-in-london/

  • Superstar Brighton pizza restaurant Purezza is opening a second location and it’s going to be in one of the most vegan-friendly locations on the planet. Camden!

A bit mystified - apart from Mildred's, what other vegan places are there in Camden? Maybe a handful of the hundreds of stalls in the market?

  • Temple of Seitan will be opening there soon, and Young Vegans are already there. Mildred's isn't vegan, is it?

  • Well, had a lump of bread (nice bread all the same, but now only good for toasting.)
Sliced into longwidth halves, filled with the extra-overs from planned filo-snosage-roll-mix (garlic, onion, chestnut mushrooms, puy lentils. courgette, yellow bell pepper, seasoning, etc.), glazed with olive oil and baked for c.20 mins (while cooking potato wedges and those filo {oh my god, so nice} rolls). Annnnnnnnndddddd all gone oink oink says mr greedy pig

  • I've been doing some compulsory mince pie testing with my girlfriend so by the time Christmas rolls around I'll be stocked on the tastiest ones.

    Story so far:

    1. Sainsbury's Free From - 5/10
Not a bad pie, pastry is a little dry, it being gluten free too, a little on the pricey side. £2 for 4.
    2. Essential Waitrose - 8/10
Very tasty filling, soft pastry, and only £1 for 6
    3. Asda- 8/10
Again very tasty with soft pastry, perhaps more spiced than the Waitrose ones, cheapest of the lot at 80p for 6.
    4. Morrison's Free From - 7/10
Best of the gluten free ones I've had, moodiness of the mincemeat worked well with their pastry. Still not cheap, I think £2 for 4
    5. Waitrose Free From - 5/10
A nice enough filling, but loses points for being expensive £2.50 for 4
    6. Sainsbury's Free From Iced - 7/10
A nice change from the regular mince pies with some icing on top. Smaller than regular mince pies, but nice to have variety.

I think that's it so far. I'll update upon further testing

  • Maybe agree with you, but Purezza is some of the best food I've ever eaten. When Picky Wops opens in Peckham next week though I'll have some comparisons to make.

  • Pretty certain several on that list aren't vegan

  • No takers for the free fruitarianism book?

    It is awful, mind...

  • Show me/shock me? I've checked them

  • been doing some compulsory mince pie testing

    British Gründlichkeit, sehr gut!

  • Apologies I'm thinking of the Tesco free from ones which have egg in- I only remember cos my family bought loads on my behalf last Christmas
