  • When I move, the house so going to need a lots of work doing to it (central heating replacing, electrics replacing, en suite added, an archway widened, kitchen replacing, all windows replaced and one being turned into French doors)
I have an electrician mate, but everything else is wide open.
Do I get a builder round to quote for the lot, or take each job on its own merit and get individuals in?
Heating is quite urgent (as we hope to move in Jan) and specialist, but the rest can be done over the next year or so.

  • Bank says it's gonna lend us £shitloads at 1.nothing%

    Ridic.

    Gonna buy shitloads of bitcoin

  • buyers surveyor was in our gaff having a snoop around today. will we die?

  • Did he go "hmmm" "Eh?" "That's not right..." Or "STOP TOUCHING ME!" at any point?

  • don't presume their surveyor's gender!

    /i wasn't there

  • Sorry, I am a bad.

  • Think we just bought a house. I've been literally physically ill from the bidding process and when we found out that we got it today I though I'd get happy. Instead a massive wave of doubt and worry.

This is far worse than having kids.

  • Not so sure, perhaps commiserations? I can't the decide.

  • Good work! Nothing quite so nice as owning your own place. Apart from having kids that is, because that buzz, for me, never, ever, ever, ever wears off :-)

  • I dunno man. Getting kids felt 100% right and I did it feeling pretty confident.

Getting a house though... makes me more worried than I've ever been

  • Just out of interest, what are you so worried about?

  • I dunno man. Getting kids felt 100% right and I did it feeling pretty confident.

And how's that panning out? ;-)

I jest, I think it's a pretty normal feeling. It feels like a big step and with dependants bigger. We bought just over a year ago. Have relatively low equity. I remain anxious in that I check prices maybe once a month but I've become more relaxed about it.
Having a few things to address in the property which also make me anxious.

    Good luck!

  • Shit, I didn't think of that. Should I get another mortgage and pump 100-odd k into bitcoinz? Sick idea.

  • Is there a risk of impending regulation?

  • Think we just bought a house. I've been literally physically ill from the bidding process and when we found out that we got it today I though I'd get happy. Instead a massive wave of doubt and worry.

Congrats! We were exactly the same way during the bidding process. Emotions can get the better of you.

    Hope the rest goes smoothly!

  • I don't know why but I can't get my head around early repayment charges on my mortgage.

I can pay 10% without paying a charge. How much would I pay in charges if I wanted to pay 15% in one chunk for example? 1% of the value of the overpayment? Surely its not 1% of the whole of the oustanding balance? If so, the outstanding balance before or after the overpayment?

  • Bitcoin? Unlikely. Every time governments try to control the internet, people work their way around the restrictions.

  • Do it!

    (I wish I did...)

  • It says "ERC on the amount repaid"

Presumably it's the amount over the 10% allowance.

  • I completely missed that. Doh.

Not going to win any clear English awards though

  • It's a bank. I had to email mine to find out what I could overpay. Turns out I'd completely misunderstood my allowances and probably could've paid off my mortgage years ago. Ok, I'd probably have to have given up the coke and hookers but you know, it's the principal of the matter.

  • Fair enough. I know zero about it.

  • I don't know anything of their plans but generally the law is a good few years behind the internet and the internet was designed to route around "damage" so any form of regulation that users see as hampering their needs will see them work their way around it.
