Bulleit rye

I've tried it as well - liked it a lot. Nearly clicked on another bottle this eve, but ended up choosing Buffalo Trace as the budget option.

Rye is better than the Bulleit Bourbon all day long

Any recommendations were to sell a rare expensive bottle of whisky? Sent a few emails to several online whisky vendors and the prices I've been quoted are well below what the same actually sells for when it does become available

How much lower? They will obviously want to make their own profit, it's their job. If you want to get what it's worth, sell it yourself. If you don't want to/can't, then the reduced sale price to a reseller is your cost for outsourcing the sale.

They are offering me around 55% of what it sells for, I don't mind them making a profit but I'm not going to be lining their pockets for little work after me carefully looking after the bottle for the last 15 years.

Have you tried going into a bricks and mortar specialist place? Might be easier to negotiate in person.

You can't expect much more. Any vendor is paying out to you caveat emptor but fronts a reputation-based retail operation which has to suck up the odd bottle being returned etc etc

I liked the Nikka, not a massive peat head, darker rather than lighter taste and colours. It's winter isn't it?

If you liked the nikka, try their coffee grain whiskey, dark pinkish label. Probably about £50 I think, I'm a fan, closer in taste to a bourbon, so sweeter but I've got a sweet tooth..

Redbreast 12 is somewhere in the middle of your budget if you fancy trying something Irish. Single Pot Still matured in Sherry casks.

Had this laying about for about a year now but not got round to trying it. Got two job offers today. Reason to open a bottle I think.

Balvenie doublewood is a nice drop, I think similar(ish) to Nikka.

The Glenlivet founders reserve single malt is £20 on Amazon and thats a cracking price.

Thanks, not seen that a site before. It's a Macallan Gran Reserva 1982, the rarest of the Gran Reserva range (apparently)

Also have another few bottles to clear out although they aren't worth much in comparison

Nice. I sold one on there but there are lots of auction sites. Have a look through the past auctions to see rough prices. Much more than you would get from a shop IMO

If you're looking for something bold for the winter, I can recommend Benromach 10 100° proof (drinkable even at 57% abv). Non chill filtered, no fake colouring. Just under £50. Face-meltingly good.

Not a bad return for the £67 I paid for it back in 2004/2005ish

Got a Glengoyne 21 for 83€ on Amazon ... should've bought more than one bottle ;)

Cycle past the Glengoyne distillery regularly, they do an hours guided tour which finishes in the shop ;-)

I have done that tour. Highly recommended. Jealous of your roads too.

The road that passes in front of the distillery is the border between the highlands and the lowlands for whisky designation. So it is distilled in the highlands and matured in the lowlands as their maturing warehouses are across the road.
