If that's a fitness rather than scheduling-related comment, I think the ride will be split into a steady group and a faster group on the day, with a regroup for lunch at the H Cafe and of course back in the pub/train beers. It's very possible that Jeff (aka Old Git) from the original ride 9 years ago will be joining us for this year's ride, and if so he'll be a solid contribution to the steady group.

Any news on the route?
-
• #56
Yeah it's all sorted. Start at Staines, then northwest via Marlow and Christmas Common, H Cafe for lunch, and then back Southeast via Wallingford, Sonning Common and Windsor. Will post up nearer the time.

I have sourced a 130mm fixie wheelset so I will be like everyone else!

Did you ride as one or two groups last year? If two, any ideas on average speeds?
-
• #61
One group, av speed was 16mph
-
• #62
av speed was 16mph
Appendix: Cumulated analysis also tells that two riding hours was spent above 18mph.

Thanks both!

gonna pencil this in the diary.
i broke my knee cap in the summer and had surgery early september so recovering slowly. today i managed to turn my legs through the rotation of the cranks so fingers crossed on getting enough indoor and outdoor miles by the time this rolls round.
always good to have a target in mind!

i want to try make this - are people riding to the start like last year?
-
• #66
I'll probably ride to the start from Finsbury Park yeah.

Cool, Jeff was on the one I was on in 2010, too. If he'll be in the steady group, I'll have a bit of a struggle to hang on to that, but it will have a bit of a training effect. :)

Oh shit! Well, I'm glad to hear recovery is coming along to the point you can turn the cranks. Was great to have you along last year, would be great if you could make it this time as well.

So long as I’m not travelling for work, I’m in - though I can’t promise to be any faster than last year! I have one of those blue inhaler things now, maybe that’ll help matters.

• #70
whats the total mileage for this?
-
• #71
90 miles. There should be some people riding to the start if you're keen!
-
• #72
Keen for this. Will have to find a good way to fit two bottle cages to my track bike, though.
-
• #73
Some rode without last year - 2 stops made it possible with just one small bottle in the jersey.

• #74
Why do fixie lads not use camelbak bladder and backpack?

Wouldn't want to be mistaken for a mtb rider...
It overlaps at Sonning Common but that's it really. Also I was going to run a CCW loop heading NW so it's mile 26 for you but would be mile 63 for us...
I'll post the route up in a bit. Also thanks to those agreeing to ride it fg/ss, it's nice to see people getting in the spirit of the ride.
