  • FWIW, I've got Chorus 11-speed (Ultratorque) on an old-ish steel frame, and have always found the shifting as precise as anything else I've tried, including Di2.

  • How about eight speed Ikea memorial Record group?

  • At this point I have realised there isn't a perfect solution.

I'll probably get a full potenza group in silver, and build it.

If the cranks make me actually vomit then I'll switch them out.

  • Sounds like you need a compact chainset and 11-32 cassette .any hill is possible for you.

  • Sounds like you need to stop acting like a lil pussy

  • But I am a pussy.

  • Oh. As you were then flower.

  • Finally, some pics and an update.

    Pics first.

  • Update on build plans.

I am going fully Italian, mainly Campag.

Wheels will be a lightly used set of Scirocco, which I have got for a bargain on the bay. G3 spoke pattern front and back for full neo retro points.

A campag record headset is on the way.
I'm bidding on an 80s campag aero seatpost.

I will go for full Potenza groupset, and keep the cranks to see how I feel about them. Compact and 11-32t, see post #131.

I have a black Arione with a blue stripe on its way.

Stem will be a silver Deda Murex 100mm, holding silver Deda compact drops. I have blue hex bar tape on the way. I may hate the tape, we will see.

The only thing left is cable outers, unless these come with the groupset? Hard to see past these being black. But I am open to ideas. Top tube is internally routed.

  • The groupset will probably have to be a Christmas present due to funds, so we are a while away from riding it just yet.

  • Question: why does this road frame have dropout screws?

  • When you set up a bike's derailleurs you dial the derailleur's position relative to the cog set to maximize the performance of the shifting system and if you re-install the wheel in a different position this will affect the fine tuning of the rear d and change the chain tension.

Makes sense. Use the screws to make the wheel reinsertion fool proof.

  • The frame looks lovely, the rear brake bridge is a nice touch too. Glad to see you're going to try the Potenza chainset, I'm more Shimano if you have to be either or, but the cohesiveness of a complete group has it's own satisfaction too.

  • I've always veered toward Campag over Shimano for no real reason. With this being an Italian frame it seemed like the right thing to do.

  • The group set should come with cable inners and outlets.

  • Assume typo? Outers?

  • And thanks.

  • Auto-correct. Yes, outers.

  • Not into recording every bit I do with the bike but I guess 200-ish mile a week until September. Way less than that now, unfortunately.

    *Edit: new page fail

  • How is it a fail to go on a new page? Also its not a new page

  • NPFF

    New Page Fail Fail

    @SideshowBob thanks. I am excite.

  • I do believe you could call this a "whip" and not have anyone giggle at you behind your back. Very nice.

  • Kind words, but I suspect you may be wrong!

Sadly you and I are both OGs in both ways!

  • Answering something from the page before this, the reply got no context now. NPFF Indeed
