• I can't remember the OS version but i recall doing something similar a few years back with my brother's university provided Mac. They were bios locked and users had no install rights so I went about fixing that... Removing a RAM stick holding the power button whilst booting would reset the BIOS pw, then booting in terminal mode or whatever it is. Removing some setup file created after the initial boot. Creating a new admin account then granting admin rights to the user account. Pre OS level encryption and all that so not sure if it'd still work... Scary stuff nonetheless.

  • Ha! That’s a good work-around. Currently, if you can get physical access to the machine then just booting in single user mode gets around a lot of stuff. Firmware passwords are pretty solid these days, thankfully.
