Froome has nothing to prove. He is already the best: of his generation, of the last 30 years. Comparisons with the era of Merckx and Hinault are false ones. Does he need to win Paris-Roubaix to be 'the best' too?
Adding the Giro will be classy and exciting but the Giro is not the Tour, he's already won the hardest stage race 4 times. He could fail to win either next year and he will still be one of the greatest.
