  • That would be tres bon, where should we meet?

  • It's at my garage in West Hampstead if you want it tonight, or I can take it to the Blue Fin Building tomorrow.

  • Blue Fin tomorrow fits the bill perfectly.

Now - picture rail, should it be level with the tops of the doors?

  • Higher!

  • 1930's right? level with the top of the door frames seems to be the norm.

  • I concur, level with the top of the door frames it is.

  • What if one of the door frames is a different height?

EDIT: Actually, make that 2 door frames.

  • Sloping picture frame?

  • 1930's modern rather than 1930's traditional though.

  • What if one of the door frames is a different height?

EDIT: Actually, make that 2 door frames.

Take the line from the lowest door frame.

  • Well that's the thing, I have three, a 230V RT and a twin RT marked 24V if I remember. If that's true then I have a low voltage dry contact combi boiler...

  • What make and model is the boiler?

  • Valiant Ecotec pro 24

  • Picture rails were getting a bit suburban by the 1930s.

Go by what feels right visually, I reckon. Older picture frames were generally between 1 and 2 feet from the ceiling. They came from an era with higher ceilings of course.

  • Having given up on the idea of stripping an interior brick wall and resorting to cladding, I still have the urge for some kind of raw material to be exposed so now want to strip the floor.

Approx. area is 6sqm, is it utter lunacy to attempt this with handheld belt sander (bosch GBS100A)?

  • It's lunacy if your time is valuable! You might do it in a day, depending on the finish you are looking for.

Look at hire cost and work out if it's worth your while. Proper sanders will help you keep the dust down too - wood dust is nasty stuff.

  • I fixed my bog!

    Full story to follow.

  • I'd go for airlock too.

    Have you got thermostatic valves?

  • Might just need balancing. I've been down the replacement TRV, checking for airlocks route before only to see an experienced plumber go round the house and balance the heat in the radiators inside 15mins. Of course the tenants usually screw it up in a week!

  • I think we have thermostatic valves.
    Edit on all but one.

  • Approx how long will it take to balance?

  • Also, a recently worn and soiled nappy will alter the temperature reading of the thermostat by Upto 3 degrees apparently.
