Thanks @cgg and @frank9755 - I think I might suggest we head up the the East coast with the families, ride to the North Sea and get some kip somewhere, then return the following morning. Or just get the family to meet us at the end. Decisions decisions! Lots of planning to do, so will doubtlessly be asking for more advice shortly. I'll be doing it on this. Should be able to pack enough for two days and a night in one pannier, although I do have a second:
