Living in Kilsyth?

I'm giving serious thought to moving out of Glasgow and out into the sticks. Lived in Glasgow for my entire puff and thought I'd never leave.
But now seriously thinking about moving out of the city with my family.

Any one on here live in or around kilsyth? I know that its got some shady areas but I dont think this can be avoided.
Drove out there today just for a nosey and wasn't terribly put off. Didnt see any junkies stabbing each other.
I used to think I'd been institutionalised by the west end. Its no doubt a nice wee overpriced bubble.
But really like the idea of living a bit further out. The Tak is a minute away and carron valley nearby. So thats the road and mountain bike sorted on the doorstep.
We've seen a house we're keen on thats right on the edge of the town and seems really quiet and removed from the jakey parts.

Main things to consider are good schools (3 year old daughter and most likely another soon) and the commute through to Glasgow for work.
Wouldn't mind hearing from folk who live in the surrounding areas and if you have kids which schools they go to.

Does anyone here keep in touch with Richard Kidd? He was on the old gfgss and I think I mind him saying he had moved out to Kilsyth. If anyone could put me in touch with him it would be appreciated.

@carbonsinglespeed my maw is out by Milton of Campsie. Kilsyth's ok-wouldn't be my first choice because of transport connections (bus is pretty shit and goes through every hole in the hedge) but from what my teacher family say its schools are pretty decent, it's got a swimming pool and decent supermarkets and a few pubs...

Fuck going up the Tak every single time you want a ride tho, then the cycle back round from Killearn way you've got that mental stretch between Kirky and Kilsyth with the Quarry lorries and every cunt going at 70. If going further out I'd be more inclined to do Balloch for the riding and train connections.

I think Paisley and the environs are a decent shout too. Super quick train journey into Glasgow and plenty of good riding. You're a short ferry ride away from Cowal too and there's a TON of good riding out there.

Yeah, I lived in Kilsyth, just at the foot of the Tak. Totally loved the place. Nurseries were great for the kids. They've just redone the park. There's a nice adventure play park, in the summer they have a wee place with kids bikes and a road layout set up so they can learn. There's trampolines and pitch and putt. Swimming pool is a really good asset close by. The country park is lovely. Really nice walled gardens and plenty for the kids to do.
The band stand in the town is lovely too.

There's an off road commute all the way to the city centre (on the canal). Otherwise best option is to ride up to Croy station for one stop train journey to Queen St. The bus is a bit of a drag, but could be worse considering how far out it is.

The bakery on the High St is banging.

Riding wise. The Campsies are literally on your door step. I really miss Carron Valley. I think the local club have been working on trails around Croy Hill and the Roman fort. On the road, you're spoiled for choice. There's hundreds of miles of really quiet country lanes.

I wouldn't go off the main road on the North side... I went up there one day and in 5 minutes saw a guy walking round a car park smashing every rear window and a guy getting his head smashed in with a guitar... Seems to keep the trouble to the scheme though because the town is always really quiet. Never seen any bother at all.
