I used to have a wine box. It worked well but there are a few issues.
You need to make sure I drill drain holes and give it a good varnish. However be prepared for people to use it as a bin when your locked up, also the whole box acts like a amp for vibrations, if you have anything small in it will make the rattle super loud.

Hadn't thought of the bin thing, but wouldn't that follow for any open container on a bike?

Dunno, ive got a basket now and it doesn't seem to happen much if ever, but when I had the box it was constant

weird

Maybe it's because the basket is a bit more invisible as it's mostly see through. Box does stand out

That is gorgeous

Decided to get the fixed commuter track-ready and take it to Newport velodrome (been using the hire bikes so far).
What makes a good saddle for the track? It’s got a carved cambium on it at the moment. I do have a non-carved one I can swap it for though.

One that can take twice your weight.

Despite the inevitable late-30s spread, I don’t weight a huge amount. The carved brooks is quite springy though - is a more solid saddle a better bet?

The old school 6-day method was a wooden block between the rail clamp and the saddle base. In all seriousness, the 250m Newport track generates less g than a titchy 6-day stadium track and you're not trying to out-sprint Patrick Sercu, so your road saddle will be fine.

Cool, cheers. I’ll stop over-thinking this then :-)

@alialias @russmeyer thanks! I’m really chuffed it’s come back to life. I’d forgotten how lovely it was to ride. Need some pascelas and pdw’s I recon. Plus some more carradice on low riders.

Fixing up my old roadbike to get it roadworthy again, been gathering dust for over a year. Had to drill it out the chainring bolts as the torx sockets were rounded out, and replaced the broken shifters with a set of slightly less broken shifters. Going to gut the left shifter and run it as a 1x10.

Crazy (in a good way) bike!
Do you have a close up of the seatpost cluster? That binder looks insane.

Red 4 me
Perfect, also there are some bottle crates that pubs use which are good for this. Sturdy to boot.
