  • Got a parking ticket in LA in the US. Driving a rental car. Should I pay it?

Online it says hertz just pass on your details now if you dont have itnand they chase the car owner and dont get involved with anything other than that.

Obviously dont want to end up not being allowed into the US or something extreme but also it’s a total bullshit $100

  • Should I pay it?

Probably. In general, car rental companies pay them without question, usually after any discount period for quick payment, and then add an administrative charge of their own before taking the money from your credit card. In London's famous London, that means instead of the £65 you'd pay if you coughed up within 14 days, the rental company charges you about £170 (£130 non-discounted PCN + £40 admin).

  • it’s a total bullshit $100

If you're absolutely sure, send it for administrative review using the online process (here if the citation was issued by LA DOT). That freezes the fine at the current level so you don't get hit for late payment on top, but it also advises them that it's your responsibility so even if they rule against you it won't go to the hire company and come back to you with admin charges added

  • The bad outcome here is that you get a conviction of some description (local laws vary) and you end up with an arrest warrant against you. You'll never pass another ETSA which will make it very difficult to return to the USA.

  • Also. How do you get a parking ticket in the US? There is parking everywhere. Maybe Boston or NYC but in LA?

Pay the $100. Just pay it.

  • Expense it.

You were there at the behest of your job, make them pick up the tab.
