Gonna be riding ss, I have a 42t chainring and a choice of 18, 20 & 22 tooth freewheels. Should I just go for the lowest gear?

I'd say 20t if you've got 26" wheels, and 22t if it's a 29er.

Both work out around 55gi, which is a nice SS ratio for Epping Forest.

@psg1ben You'll be thankful for the lower gears, there a some albeit small but tough climbs and some quite technical & rooty sections.

Yeah, I've climbed Claypit Hill on the higher gear of my dinglespeed and it's no fun at all. 50-55gi is nais

I just avoided Claypit Hill when I was on a singlespeed :-)

The classic 52gi was nice around Epping. I found that 55gi was more bearable to & from the forest though.

For me, yes, because I can then do my Sunday roadie club run as well, and be tired enough on monday not to notice how boring my current job is

In for both Saturday or Sunday, whatever gets most votes. My only prerequisite is a beer, either after the forest or back south.
