Stolen bikes

  • I've just seen a bike waaaay to nice for the scrote on it in waterloo, it looked custom made and didn't fit well too. Phone was dead so couldn't take a pic but was at 11pm outside the sainsburys.

Raw steel frame with golden smoothed over welds similar to brompton under but 700c single speed with freewheel and only a disc brake on the back, flatbar, green flat pedals.

  • Sorry to hear that. Thefts from hallways has been a significant problem in Clapton since last year.

  • Seen lots of these but rarely explained are the circumstances ... are they mostly forced entry?

  • Some of them were apparently that people were watching houses and when someone went out and only put the catch on, they opened the door (easy to do) and loaded the bikes inside into a vehicle, possibly a van. I'm sure it wasn't just one modus operandi or just one group of thieves, though.

  • Yep, wondered if there were any trends to be aware of. Having a door kicked in is very different to a lapse in vigilance.

  • Sounds like a custom TJ ESB I used to see round and about a few years back. If memory serves it was stolen, but can't be sure.

  • @Clockwise @jv

I was about to say the same thing. If it is a custom ESB then it's Charlie's from Seabass Cycles.

  • @jv

That's the bike but with a different front wheel and green pedals. If you got cctv from the sainsburys showing the space outside by the bus stop you should get a picture of the guy on it.

  • Hopefully someone can direct the owner to this thread. I don’t know him, just used to see the bike around east. Must have been 5+ years ago

  • I've sent him a message to let him know. Fingers crossed

  • Just had this stolen in East London - only riding it as I crashed my winter bike on Tuesday, writing the frame off...

It's a one off Vaz paintjob so pretty distinctive, any sighting would be much appreciated. Jonny

  • Shit mate. Don't think anyone will get away with selling that online, just hope it doesn't go to a market.
Check the usuals if you can make it, brick lane sunday etc

  • Shit, sorry to hear.

Was it nicked from street or break in? What post code?

  • Damn. Hopefully won't stay lost too long, that frame is so distinctive. Will keep an eye out.

  • oh man thats a rough few days. cannondale eyes will be peeled as they usually are

  • Thanks all. Street theft, just going through the insurance usuals now but I'm just sad for the end of an era with my dream racer, not sure I can bring myself to go Kevin Costner on another build.

  • What lock/locks did you use?

  • Oh mate! Sad to hear.

Will keep eyes open in case it pops up round the E9 area

  • Red Specialized E5 (older model) just been stolen in Hackney Central.

Mix of Ultegra 6600 (shifters have the external cables) and 105 in silver, with black Shimano wheels and a silver layback Thomson post.

Size 58, with long seatpost so quite distinctive.

Willingly chuck a reward your way if you help in anyway recover it.

  • Will keep an eye out, just down the road on Well St.

Did you see it get stolen?

  • Thanks Batt, appreciated,

I put it together for my brother, and he called earlier; popped into a phone shop in his lunch break, he said literally 7 minutes, and actually went and checked mid-way through. Was one of those round-the-waist-type cable locks, so it wouldn't have put up much of a fight!....

Nothing special, but I'd recently serviced it for a new lease of life - new chain, cassette, cables, tape, brake blocks, winter tyres, and Thomson post - so it's f*cking annoying in that respect.

  • "stolen between 13.40 and 13.50 from outside the O2 Store on the pedestrian section of Mare Street"

  • And double-f*ckers, I just remembered, he's running a workshop at his studio today. In response to Black Friday all the proceeds go to an animal charity. Bit of a kick in the nuts for someone trying to make a difference.

If anyone is passing tomorrow, his studio is open, super interesting space; drop in and say hi!
