If I treat my Red Winter (overwinter) Onions the same as my Senshyu Japanese (overwinter) onions will I be ok? (I.e. Planting them out at the same time)
Or is there significant difference between the two onion varieties? -

Try it and report back?
SCIENCE :) -

I popped in some alliums, (white onions, shallots, red onions & garlic from Wilko), in October and thought I was chancing my luck. All seem to have germinated, despite the decreasing incidence of days with 15C. Are your Japanese onions tolerant of low germination temperatures? I was lucky enough, once to spend Xmas in Tokyo and was surprised how warm it was, never below 10C.

I might be tripping here...
How many clicks should I expect from a 7800 RD shifter? It has no cable installed.
I would expect it to click up 9 times and then click down 9 times.
Mine is clicking 3 times only. Reckon there could be a bit of cable end stuck in there?
-
• #87606
Yeah, there is. I just fucked around with it a bit and can see dead cable end in there.

How the fuck do I get that out?

anyone use Skype?
I haven't felt this flummoxed/frustrated by what should be a user-friendly application in a long time... -
• #87609
work should give me access to Skype for Business but I really couldn't figure that out. so I made a new personal account and downloaded skype to my personal laptop. for a work call.
I need to show slides and talk. I have found "share screen" but it leaves a small floating window with the person I am talking to on it. So they see themselves rather than a small picture of me. I want a small picture of me in the corner, preferably. Or nothing. But themselves is a bit silly.
halp? -
• #87610
I win.
-
• #87611
They will see your screen, you will still see a small picture of them. That's how it works isn't it?
-
• #87612
Thanks AQA you useless bastards! :P
-
• #87613
anyone used a hornit?
Should I get one?
Don't want my clown horn anymore. -
• #87614
No they see my screen, and a small picture of themselves. Then even when I close the small window of them, so I can't see it, they still can. Even when I set up two screens and shared only the one with the slides on, and have the Skype window open in the other, non-shared screen, they can still see themselves.

I’ve got one of those rock bros bells that work well. the hornit seems too loud for most of the occasions I’d want to use it and makes a particularly obnoxious sound... but if it makes your ride feel safer I won’t tell you to not get one!
-
• #87616
It is quite obnoxious int it.
Dingaling bells are rubbish tho.
I'd rather have a honk then a shrill beep but they are all huge other than clown horns -
• #87617
Maybe they can turn it of on their.side?
Would still.show up for you but maybe not them?
Total guess tbqh -
• #87618
I shall report back. The packet says plant from Sept-Feb so I hope I'll be ok...
-
• #87619
Them on laptop not phone makes a difference, then they can turn off the small window with them in. No way to get a little window of me it seems, but less critical.

not sure if I'm being particularly dense or if the setup is rubbish.
having got the workings just about ok on laptop, I very much doubt there will be enough wifi tomorrow afternoon to support video. PC is networked in but I'm not allowed to install anything. urgh. -

I think the issue is that Skype for biz is just proper, proper shit.
-
• #87622
So far I've been trying it on non biz skype. But will try to borrow a cam+mic tomorrow and give the biznis a go...
I've wasted hours on this. I just don't feel like it should be this difficult.

Are you sure the person you're talking to isn't a bit thick, and is just seeing the display from their own camera? I mean, whenever I'm on Skype there's always a little window showing me what the other person is seeing. (Though I've never used the screen sharing stuff)
You can switch it off somehow, but I hate Skype and am not willing to fire it up to find out.
Edit: I hope for your sake I'm wrong, otherwise the other person will have wasted hours of your time purely because of their own silliness
Edit no. 2: I'm pretty sure there's no way to remove the image of yourself on mobile Skype, because I've tried it before. Maybe get them to turn their camera off and see if that does it.

Ha. I've just been bothering my sister testing it out in advance of actually doing the work thing tomorrow. I'm pretty sure it's me being dense though :/

Pointy things and tweezers
Mdf doesn't hold up very well if you screw into the edges. Try to use a dowel and glue instead. You can hold the parts together and drill with a tiny pilot through the legs into the edge of the MDF, then drill 5/6mm holes to a reasonable depth for the dowels using the pilot hole as a guide.
If you want to smooth the cut edges of MDF you can use 80/150/250/400 grit in 4 stages to get really nice paintable edges and then make a tiny radius along the edges.
