What's the deal with the triangle next to the N? Is it a German icon for fucked gearbox?

It just means there is a current 'Check Control' message stored, backed up by the bright yellow low fuel symbol, it stays up once the main yellow symbol disappears, any current messages will repeat themselves when you switch off the ignition.
