I think the idea behind the chainstay is that the bike will only make left turns, hence less material on the right and asymmetrical seat stays.
Anyway, both are experiments/show bikes, optimal functionality probably wasn't the brief

Whilst never a big ISM fan and perhaps even less the idea of a steel one, I find this to be some pretty cool work:
Samson integrated seatpost with a recreated Campagnolo Super Record style chariot/insert.

I like that a lot. Is there a picture of it in paint?

Not yet, the progress is over on his Facebook page, top pic is the latest stage

That's very cool! But with the insert rather than a topper, if you need to raise the saddle rail height (Different saddle, or change of position for revised fit etc.) there will be exposed seat post. I guess that could be somewhat negated by painting the seat post insert, but it will still be obvious. I think I'd prefer a topper...
Nit picking though. -

As drøn says, spacers.
I guess silver ones matching the top of the post and given that it's a Samson and should end up all chromed I reckon chromed silver spacers will fit in without looking out of place.
Says over on FB it's got 20mm of adjustability.

Oh no it was all going so well. All that effort and it ruined.
Artisan bikes have gone too far. Ev3rything should be functional and beautiful. Not clutter for the sake of it. Pointless.. the American at nhabs would probably love it. -
