  • little shout out for the castle inn in Skipton. has about five vegan options on the menu. and beer. lovely lovely beer

  • Too late probably, but is it for a sit-down dinner? Manna in Primrose Hill is supposed to be good. (I've still never been.)

Other than that, Young Vegans have a shop there now (pie and mash).

  • Mildred's, obvs

  • Thanks for posting up that book ive just made the switch to almost no meat, feel much better and lost weight but I'm running low on recipes. Which is why I'm lurking in the vegan thread although not quite fully vegan yet.

Actually a question. I feel as though I don't have as much energy as my previous diet, I don't know if this is a mental thing or a real effect, diet now mainly vegies, rice, toffu and noodles. Should I be adding in more of something to boost energy levels or is just my meat craving playing tricks on me ?

  • When I made the change, I found the opposite. Had wondered if dairy was contributing to lethargy, and seemed to be the case. I'm aware that's not really helpful, but I got no science.

I've got really lazy in my cooking, so going to get a few cookbooks for inspiration. What do you guys recommend? You've been very poor so far on mince pies and ice cream, so buck your ideas up, Vegan Thread!

  • Eat more food! Meat (and dairy) are extremely calorie dense foods, so the likelihood is you're now consuming less calories on a similarly sized plate than you were before. Bigger portions and more variety. :)

  • Ice cream - boojabooja is just amazing

    Snowconut sticks are also ace

Mince pies, make our own dontchaknow, will use coconut butter in pastry

  • I always recommend the first two RASA cookbooks. The first one is omnivorous and the second one is ovo-lacto vegetarian, but most recipes are very easy to do vegan, and there are plenty of vegan ones to start with. It's a superb style of cuisine.

The two I mean are 'Fresh Flavours of India' and 'The New Taste of India'. No need to bother with the others (they're simplified, omnivorous, and not as good).

  • Just made jackfruit and coleslaw mini buns out the edgyveg book(I hate the word ‘slider’).
One can of jackfruit made enough for 12 wee buns with more than enough left over for dinner tomorrow.

  • I bought the taste of India when you recommended it about two years ago. Got me through uni on the cheap, I love it

  • They look so good. I’m making them tomorrow for sure!

  • Re icecream

Swedish Glace Vanilla is excellent I've also noticed it's popular with vegan restaurants .

If you like fancy flavours Ben and Jerry's non dairy Peanut Butter and Cookies .

  • I was in Saino's today, they only had the Alpro ice cream, but they don't have their Freefrom mince pies yet. Any idea who's stocking the B&J's?

  • Big Tesco in catford has 3 flavours.

  • +1 for Swedish Glace, even sell it in the village Coop :-)
When the freezers aren't broke :-(

  • Qournish pasty? Nearly? Sorry. Definitely making these, look excellent.

  • Maybe I'm being thick but what's Tom p?

  • Male cat urine?
    Tomato paste/puree?

  • Finally jumped on the band wagon yesterday and went to temple of hackney, much much much better than expected (though i think my meal choice helped, the burger my Gf had was good, but no where near as good as the buffalo wings and mac n cheese.

1 question, can I microwave the leftover seitan for my lunch today?
