• The hardware on which the forum database lives is subject to emergency maintenance... basically something has gone wrong with it and the host need to take it offline and swap parts. At the same time, the virtual machine will be converted from a Xen server to a KVM server.

This all takes about 3-4 hours minimum, and is scheduled for tomorrow (Monday).

However I have the chance to reduce the impact, both in the amount of time this all takes, and choosing when to do it. If I just migrate to new hardware before the scheduled window, I will only be subject to the time it takes to stop a machine, copy 90GB across the network, verify it, convert it, and spin it up.

    I'm choosing to do this.

    Tonight... at 10pm.

Sunday is quieter than Monday night, and the time for me to move machines is quicker than waiting on the hardware fixes too.

So tonight... at 10pm, the databases will all go down, and be migrated to new hardware. Meaning that the forum will appear to be online but broken for a while, hopefully only a couple of hours max.
