Also I need to learn about flash. Using flash with old, analog cameras that is.
Halp!
Level 1
I have been using a Nikon Speedlight SB-15 on an old FG, like in the Wikipedia image
..basically in "M" mode - as "TTL" or whatever else just gives me hectic blinking feedback in the finder that suggest the camera won't have it, while "M" seems to steadily light up 1/60 which I guess is the local sync speed.
So far so good - it's just that I don't see any possibility to actually reduce / increase the power of the flash burst, often I would like to reduce it to allow more ambient light. Can one only "cheat" by adjusting ISO and +/-2 exposure compensation?
If somebody could help - with these kind of flashes on old SLRs in general (I can also use this on, say, a Pentax ME, right?) - as well as this particular speedlight on Nikon bodies like the FG or EM that would be much appreciated.
If you have some good links to other sites explaining this stuff this would be very helpful.
Thank you!
Level 2
Using flash with a Rollei from the early 1950's.
It's a Rolleicord III - Model K3B, to be precise.
It's got a "Compur Rapid X" shutter, and is apparently capable of "X-Sync". Whatever this means.
Please can somebody explain what kind of flash can be used with this camera, and what the options are.
I guess I will need an X-Sync cable to connect (it's the only option I see on the camera).
But does the flash "know" when I pull the (shutter) lever on the Rollei, and what are these old camera's sync speeds??
As above - useful liks etc. much appreciated so I can read up on this stuff!
