Cycling as a whole is hardly representative. Not that Rapha are therefore excused.

I saw an oriental asian in one of the photos once.

A reasonable criticism, one that I hadn't noticed before.
Cycling has, I've thought, always seemed to lack the diversity of other sports.
I guess if they are picking from the RCC diversity is probably further lacking.I wonder if there is a Widening Participation role?

Its a question of will IMO.
As a brand born and cultivated in London I think it should reflect the diversity. I know the sport in whole hasn't done a great job of this but as a brand I am sure it just makes sense as it widens the reach.
RCC almost should be a beacon of it as its a 'community'. It irritates me as a non-white RCC member that the visual representation disregards this.
I have never seen an official reply from Rapha regarding this but BAME RCC membership data might shut me up.

I mean they don't have to go this far:

I mean if you have to dig through the product carousels on an obscure page I could probably find a few too. But thats completely missing the point.
It sounds a bit 'I have a coloured friend'-ish.

It's probably more a case of I remembered it because it was the only time they weren't white.
They were featured quite heavily upon launch of the Flyweight stuff though.

Asked them about it on Twitter, was ignored.

Maybe I should ask on the RCC forum ..

I'm not exactly sure what your position/ argument exactly is but could you not submit a FOI request? I don't know if such data is captured mind
-
• #29864
That the imagery isn't proportionally representative of the RCC or that the RCC isn't diverse enough? Or both?
-

That the imagery isn't proportionally representative of the RCC
This. And not just RCC, overall Rapha imagery. You could argue the same about other brands too but I thought Rapha was different.
the RCC isn't diverse enough
This I cannot tell.

• #29866
If you have concerns and if they ask members for this data a FOI would seem like the way to go.
Perhaps with a link to retention data too? -
• #29867
I'm not exactly sure what your position/ argument exactly is but could you not submit a FOI request?
An FOI request made to a private company? No.

I'm curious of Rapha's sourcing of models for their pictures.
It appears to me that they try and find attractive genuine cyclists, otherwise their would be more 'Watchfinder' type issues.Perhaps not much diversity in those that model and cycle (at least enough to get epic tanlines, or would allow themselves to get them)
In Asian markets like Korea, not having Asian people on imported brand advertising is not a hinderance, often adding to how exotic it is and increases desirability.

FOI is only for public bodies, you can't do the same with a private company. They don't have any requirement to release such information.
-
• #29870
I thought Rapha was staffed with a majority of Brexiteers, so it’s no surprise they don’t have BAME people in their imagery.
-
• #29871
Ah fair enough. I have to deal with them all the time at work, I'll stop banging on about it then
-
• #29872
For example, read their About Rapha section https://pages.rapha.cc/about-rapha/company and consider how many times they say global or world, consider their positioning as a luxury brand and finally look and the skin colour of their models. Their advertising message is that luxury = whiteness.
