London Fixed Gear and Single-Speed is a community of predominantly fixed gear and single-speed cyclists in and around London, UK.
This site is supported almost exclusively by donations. Please consider donating a small amount regularly.
I've just received an email about a new consultation on safety standards for heavy goods vehicles in London:
The first page of explanatory text says:
So while I don't think the fact that the disproportionate involvement of HGVs is radically new (e.g. see the article I and others published a few years ago on Deaths of cyclists in London: trends from 1992 to 2006 which makes the same point), it is at least good to see that there is finally some kind of action by a governmental body.
Taking a brief look at the survey (pages 1 and 2) it seems it is majority questions/statements that require a response from "strongly agree" to "strongly disagree" (and I haven't yet thought about what good responses may be) but there are also a number of questions that provide the opportunity for free text answers.
I hope that it will be possible for this community to provide a good level of input on behalf of cyclists in London.
Cheers,
