Apex 1 mech and 42t will definitely work. None of those said whether the 10spd shifter will work with the 11spd mech, though. I've tweeted the author of the velonews article to see if he knows.
I don't know about that specific combination but 10 and 11 speed sram are all interchangeable. They will work together, you just need to ensure you match the speed of the levers with the cassette
