I have heard that unemployment is still an issue, certainly the local doctor and dentist almost assumed we’d have benefits of some sort but Mrs Hammer and I have had no problem finding decent work. There is also a thriving art and music community and I have friends freelancing in video and designy stuff quite successfully without being in London.
The only negative change I’ve noticed so far is that there seem to be a lot more homeless people than I remember but I think this is a national problem and possibly a result of less council policies to reduce visibility.
The DFL thing seems to be a mixed bag - a vocal minority who write letters to the local paper and complain that things aren’t like they used to be and a cautious majority who recognise that the town needs new blood and money to progress (and that if they love the place other people are going to as well). People in person have been polite and very friendly!
Yep! Although they've just installed some trippy new lighting down there
