I’m not an engineer or a frame builder so will defer to others, but i was struck that Dave Kirk describes his approach to design as whittling away extraneous details. His (lovely) dropouts, for example, are called ‘triple f’ (form follows function). That doesn’t seem consistent wth the view that his seats stays are a stylistic frippery.
Fairly sure that I didn’t register for Velocipede Salon, but the smoked out threads are a fascinating read, and well worth registering for if you are interested in custom frame builders. This is thread I am talking about:
