  • Should I try tubeless again, if so what combination of sealant and tyres?

yes, esp if you are mechanically sound .. get everything tubeless compatible, no ghetto stuff. I like Schwalbe Pro One.

  • My Hunt's came with Hutchinson Sector 28s installed but they've been really poor, Hunt have been excellent though and are refunding the tyres. What sealant would people recommend as the Schwalbe Doc Blue stuff didn't seal the punctures I had on the Sector 28s.

What's the puncture protection supposedly like on the Pro Ones?

  • I'm leaning away from tan walls as although they look great against Ti they're not the most practical for a winter bike build, maybe for the next summer build...

Just buy a tube of Aquasure and give the sidewalls a thin coat of it using an acid brush. Any dirt will just wash off.

@mmccarthy is in desperate need of this information.

  • Interesting news... How tricky is it to apply?

  • I did two Cross tubs in about 10-15 minutes last week. It's really straightforward.

  • Frame probably not going to be ready this week the 35 days they initially quote for build doesn't include weekends it appears. Means in real terms it is a 47 day build so potentially finished next Friday ready for shipping end of November...

  • Looks good. I bought a Waltly a couple of years ago through Brant at Pact: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/286731/ Very pleased with it, though it took Brant ages to get round to actually designing the thing. Waltly built and shipped it promptly though delivery took a little longer than expected.

I fitted Strada Bianca on mine initially, but they were almost impossible to fit and slippery in the wet. Soon swapped them for 30mm Panaracer Gravel Kings.

  • Ive not had a single puncture on my Pro Ones, the 25mm come up as 27/28mm though.

Effetto Mariposa is a good sealant, I had a massive hole in my Corsa Speeds from a screw and it sealed it.

  • Thanks, If I do try tubeless again it will probably be Pro Ones in 28mm. I'll have a look at the Effetto sealant, i've heard good things about Orange Seal...

  • Orange Seal is all we use in the shop for personal bikes. I've been running it under some Compass Cycles tyres for a few months now, and under some Vittoria Barzos for a few years now.

  • Fantastic, thanks. Definitely sounds like I should give tubeless another try.

I had an update from Waltly this morning. The frame is built it is just in the hand brushing stage at the moment. Shipment should be early next week.

  • Frame pictures got sent through...

    Gets shipped tomorrow!

  • Can you link to this Aquasure stuff? I'm only getting water purifiers when I google.

  • Ooof that’s good. I’m not a big fan of the curve under the top tube but I can appreciate it would make shouldering it a lot nicer

  • Just google for Aquasure glue, it’s usually advertised as a waterproof glue for neoprene repair.

  • Great stuff!
Fingers crossed on the import tax front.
Is the top tube their standard? I'm also confused between the Astomi and Waltly...?

  • Yeah fingers crossed it dodges customs...

The tapered top tube is non standard. I'd seen a bike in the flesh with one and really liked the effect so asked them to do it on mine.

Astomi was the custom name I plumped for. In Greek mythology they were a race of people who didn't need to eat or drink. I have the worlds slowest metabolism and can quite happily do 100 miles on an empty stomach. It's a touch geeky but anyone who rides with me, would get the reference.

The standard Waltly finish is plain sand blasted, brushed finish is a free upgrade and logos are 20 dollars...

  • Ah I see great stuff. Well I shall keep following as I need something for longer adventures in the future!

  • Mate that's super nice especially for the price!! Looking forward to seeing how it builds up and rides. Hope customs don't hold the process up too much ;) T

  • Thanks ,yeah I'm hoping it turns out ok. Has been a bit of a leap of faith so far! I can almost guarantee it'll get the full customs treatment though, the forks got caught a few weeks back. Luckily, I managed to get a partial refund on the charges due to Parcelforce's ineptitude so in the end it wasn't too bad!

  • I'm pretty sure this is an obvious thing but I wonder what are the additional braze-ons on the down tube and NDS chain stay? Makes routing cables for lights easier?

  • They're cable guides for the rear disc brake
