• so last thursday I come out of the office at about 5.20pm and imagine my surprise when I see my garmin 810 edge sitting on the mount on my handlebars on the bike i'd left locked up outside 2 busy mini-supermarkets in the middle of clerkenwell since 7.30am.

    a) I specifically remember thinking at least 4 times while I was locking up "must grab my garmin once i've stuck my keys in my pocket again" and also clearly recall giving the bike a "thorough" look over to make sure it was properly secured and all was as it should be.

    b) how in the fucking flippity fuck , fucking, FUCK was it still there at the end of the day?!

I can see the rack from about 75yds away through the window of our 2nd floor office and through the course of the day i'd noticed a handful of bikes had locked up next to it throughout the day.

    lucky lucky boy.

  • Good to hear. I once left my bike unlocked outside college for an entire very long day. I don't know why, I was probably distracted when I 'locked' it up. The lock was even in its holder on the frame. Admittedly, it wasn't the most attractive bike, but still. I got out quite late in the evening and was absolutely mortified to realise, but it was still there.

  • lucky indeed!

I once 'locked' my bike up by leyton asda and jollied off to do a 45min shop / track down some double stuffed oreos. only realised I'd had a proper mare when I went to load the groceries into my rucksack which still, sphincter twitchingly, contained my 2 D-locks.

slung my money at the cashier yelling 'keep the change!' and only half sprinted outside assuming the worst, only to find it still leaning again the sheffield stand. that's how not to lock your bike.

  • Impressive.

Not quite as bad as that but I once locked my bike outside the Apple Tree in Clerkenwell and when I came back to it a few hours later I couldn't find the key.... Brief moment of panic, then spotted I'd left it sticking out of the lock. Did feel silly and lucky.
