  • As we all have access to a great number of free and paid for galleries, all over the country/ world, I thought it would be nice to have a central place to suggest, discuss or critique them.

I am hoping to go to the Basquiat display at Barbican on Friday, anyone been?

  • I haven't been to the Barbican show, but did see his retrospective in Paris in 2010, which was amazing.

  • Great idea for a thread, I'm forever finding out about little exhibitions here and there once its too late.

  • off the top of my head:

john akomfrah at barbican curve is excellent (free)
dali/duchamp at royal academy is excellent (paid)
tate tanks video installations at the moment are excellent (free)
thomas ruff at whitechapel gallery should be excellent (paid)

  • The Basquiat show is good. It’s nowhere near as comprehensive as the retrospective in Paris but well worth a visit.

I haven't been yet but the Thomas Ruff exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery looks good

  • The exhibitions at 180 the strand are great as usual, the ryoji ikeda installation is one of my favourite things I've seen all year.

  • Has anyone been to the Manga exhibition at the British Museum?
Was considering it, but £20 for something I only have a passing interest in (and another £20 for ladywife who has less interest) seems an expensive afternoon.

  • Kaws has an exhibition opening in October for a very short period.

  • I’m not familiar with Kaws, is the exhibition worth a visit?

  • .

  • I'm showing and selling mine and my partner's creations this weekend as part of the Peckham Festival.
    Location Copeland and Bussey Park

  • I went to the Kaws exhibition, it's tiny.
2 sculptures and maybe 10 paintings (that were all very similar)
I liked it, and would love to see a bigger, full show.

If your over Piccadilly I'd say check it out (Skartstedt gallery)
Tickets are free, I had them, turned up, security asked if I had tickets, but didn't check them, so you could probably chance it. They just don't like too many people in the relatively small space.

  • I'm thinking about buying some prints that were proofs for an art book. I'd be getting them because I like them, not as an investment, but I wondered whether people thought they'd be more or less collectible than limited edition prints? The gallery just told me:

"Most of them are unique but some have been printed a couple of times. They’re proofs created when the artist was putting together his XXXXXX book, so some do have marks and some have different paper edges/sizes to others."

  • Free The Gallery is a pop up art gallery in the old collectors Market on Haynes Lane, Crystal Palace Triangle. I've organised a group show of painting, printmaking, ceramics, jewellery and mixed media, including lots of the paintings I've made whilst cycling round various parts of the British Isles. I'd love to see some lufguss folk there. Free beer on the Friday :)

    Details are:
Upstairs at Haynes Lane Collector's Market
    Hayne's Lane
Off Westow Street, Crystal Palace Triangle, SE19 3AE
    Private view Friday 8th 6-9pm
    Open 9th-10th October 11am-6pm

  • Yes defo if I’m free

  • I'm looking for an exhibition to take my mum to.

Has anyone been to one of these Immersive Experiences?

Looking at the Van Gogh Immersive Experience or Klimt.

Will they be a bit naff?

  • Mum went to see one of the immersive exhibitions (albeit in France) and was rather underwhelmed and she's a fan of more traditional figurative art

There's Paul Cezanne if you're looking for something more traditional. https://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-modern/ey-exhibition-cezanne

Also heard good things about William Kentridge exhibition at the RA although that is a bit less trad in terms of media
    https://www.royalacademy.org.uk/exhibition/william-kentridge

  • Cheers that's really helpful. I was thinking of the Cezanne one, but wondered if something different might be better.

  • No, they’re dreadful. Go see the real thing imo.

The Kentridge is meant to be very good but cezanne is cezanne so if you have one then go see that. He’s the best

  • Funnily enough my OH's wife it being taken to the VG Immersive one, so will report back on how they found it.

  • I have a day out in London planned for my birthday (a Thursday in February) and am going to NHM for the wildlife photographer of the year exhibit.
    Anything else on worth seeing?
(Doesn't need to be near NHM)
Free is good but am not against buying tickets.

  • The Freud is good at the national

Christopher Kulendran Thomas is worth a look at the ica

    Flavin is good at Zwirner

Die marcon will probably be good at Sadie Cole’s (hasn’t opened yet)

Serpentine is near the NHM but don’t know what will be on there next month

  • Another vote for Dan Flavin
