@MisterMikkel Apparently the shimano top end ones 3dn72/80 or whatever is serviceable in that you can service the bearings. The electrical internal (I'm guessing) notsomuch. From what I've heard Schmidt, like SP, is a send it to the factory sitch.
I have heard if you attempt to service bearings you have to know/do something very particular in order to not fuck it up, something to do with a cable that sits in a groove in the axle. Or something.
I predict when we all realise our flashy / not so flashy dynohubs all die we will be getting into the new era 'bottle' dynamos. Apparently they rest on the rim (not tyre) and are very low resistance.
You heard it here first.
I predicted the rise & rise of the mudflap back in 2010 ish, so, you know, Nostradamus aint got nothin on me.

What output are you expecting? Sp pd8 is a 6v hub.
Dynohubs are constant current devices. The voltage a hub generates is generally proportional to the speed you're going and also dependent (inversely proportional?) to the resistance of the load it is driving.
A "6V hub" is one that will generate roughly 6V at the bottom of end of normal cycling speeds (assuming it is built into an appropriately sized wheel) and driving a typical lamp. Modern lamps have voltage regulators to protect the lighting from over-voltage, and they throw away the excess power generated as heat. On a near-open circuit (i.e. just the mutlimeter) you can see 50V+ from a 6V dynohub if you give the wheel a good spin.
A "12V hub" will generate 12V at the bottom end of normal cycling speeds, but produce half the current of the "6V" hub.
Lights/etc will be designed to run against one or the other of the systems.

Isn't there a really nifty german one of these that I'm too lazy to look up?
@Alan_tbt It does :)

realised my rear light has bare wire connection so no need for any extra connectors.
Went for shakedown ride last night and all was good especially with the "brake" rear light. Not sure how I did without them for my riding life.. -
• #1056
Word^ the brakelight is great. Shame it's only available as rackmounted at the moment ...
-
• #1058
I'm over sensible to my wheels being out of true too.

Are you Italian?

Huh, no?

:) nevermind then

IQ-X are bright AF! So is secula.
-
• #1064
Cool. You taken the IQx somwhere really dark yet? Would be interested to hear your opinion on the beam shape thing.
-
• #1065
Q1 dark enough for you? :P
-
• #1066
In a way! But no I meant country dark.

I’ve just fitted my IQ2 Luxos U. The beam, even on low was great even on a completely unlit road. I usually have a Exposure Joystick as a helmet mount to add to my bike mounted light but no need.
I should be able to get some Gopro footage onto YouTube during the next week.
The only downside is that the low rider front rack creates a shadow about 5 feet in front of the bike. But then again if I’ve missed the hole by then it’s too late anyway. -

sorry for the noob question, what do you need in order to wire lights and igaro simultaneously?
I've got an igaro d1 but I think it's time for some lights...
-
• #1069
Has anyone experience of removing the rear reflector off a set of sks blumells and replacing with a secula? Are there any ticks to getting a neat job with the cabling?
-
• #1070
Nothing special. I just twisted the front light wires and the Igaro wires... oh wait... I have the prototype, the new ones might have connectors or something?
-
• #1072
According to the lovely chap from Igaro they can both be wired straight in at the the dynamo hub, although that might just be for Supernova's. It worked for me for a while but I ended up having problems with my charging unit because it was one of the earlier ones without a stability bank.
-
• #1073
I like the idea of a single wire up the fork leg. But if Supernova are more reliable because they -don't- have connectors at the light, I'll stick with that option.
-
• #1074
What's a stability bank?
Mine has been fine since install. SP hub(s) + Supernova Triple + D1 prototype
-
• #1075
It's a bigger version of the (super)capacitor that's added to the original prototype D1. It smooths the incoming pulses from the dynamo at low speed.
That includes the new hub?
