  • Great, hadn't looked at that option!

  • The 2 speed isn't that might lighter than the SA 3sp (a kilo, maybe?) but it's simpler. I have 2sp myself, and I actually found it a bit over-geared with the stock gearing (13/16t sprockets, 54t chain ring) so I swapped mine out for a 50t. I do live near Crystal Palace tho, which is a bit lumpy.

  • Yeah, that 54x13 gear is far too big for most people.

  • We're checking out a 2 speed soon hopefully. If the gear is too big but it's otherwise fine I'm happy to swap a 50t on to it

  • I’m just down the hill in Beckenham if you want to test a 2 speed first.

  • Another here, in Forest Hill - close to Crystal Palace who has a 2 speed with a 50t chainring - and glad of it.

  • Haven’t noticed a problem in the four years since I got it 🤷‍♂️

Tbf I hardly ever have to go up hills on it.

  • Most of my riding on it is in Cambridge.

  • Thanks but I'm in Bristol

  • Ah, realised I'd got you mixed up with @jj72 after I posted but couldn't change it.

  • Just checked. I have the crap small wheels..

Has anyone upgraded wheels / got a rack?

Is it much better for wheeling it around?

  • I’d suggest a few more gears for brssl.

  • Thanks. The wife has a decent bike for most of her riding. The Brompton would just be for getting to parkway station (slight gradient for the first half a mile then flat) and then from Swindon station to the hospital, which google tells us is pretty flat.

Had a look a 2 speed yesterday, seemed ok weight-wise so I might get her to have a grope of a 3 speed in Evans over the weekend and make a decision then.

The 2 speed is in decent nick. Am I taking the piss by offering £500?

  • As all above re 2 speed gearing, but you can get it stock with -7% ratio so don't need to swap anything. That's fine for south London hills imo.

  • That would be very cheap

  • They agreed with you. Accepted £550 though!

  • Is you wife a member on here too who posted a wanted ad a few weeks back?

  • The reason i ask is, a woman from Bristol with a similar budget agreed to buy mine last week and said she’d pick it up this week. But i haven’t heard from her since.

If it is her i’m glad she got sorted.

But I don’t wanna stick mine in the classifieds in case it isn’t her and she turns up to collect.

  • If the chain isn’t worn, rims fine, and rear triangle have no play then yes great value.

  • Got this basic Brompton bag, they don't seem to make it anymore so no idea what model it was.

Comes with a frame but no block.
    £15 collected from Lewisham

  • No, my wife isn't a member on here.

  • I've got an H&H type B rack from Dynokiddo, with Eazywheels all round. Makes it more stable when upended and I can also tow it along like a trolley if I need to. Much neater than the full Brommie rack, tho it's not much good for actually carrying stuff.

  • Picked up the Brompton today for £550. Barely ridden, chain is immaculate and brake blocks look new. Enjoying watching the wife figure out the folding process with a beer now
