That saddle and the angle of the handlebars disagrees

Good point well made đź‘Ť. Come to think it, the exact words were "The gears and brakes are set up lovely".
Thanks - any further thoughts? -
• #5
Its probably older than I am so I don't know much about them :)

Bloody hell, you make me, at 36, feel old! 1993/94 is the most informed estimate given model/frame/groupo.
-
• #7
Well in that case, maybe it isn't! I'm a 92 baby :)

It's a C96, which is the basic model, but they ride really nice. The blisters are a bit of a worry, as the paint job is the best bit about the frame.

Looks to be in great nick, Columbus Thron isn’t by any means top quality steel but the Campagnolo bits look almost brand new (which btw 10 speed Chorus was introduced in 2000). Colnagos will always retain a high asking price so in regards to selling it on I doubt you’ll have problems in that field. Question is how much is your contact wanting for it?

I love the "pain bubbles " typo instead of paint bubbles but is quite descriptive.
You say you have little legs -so 172.5mm cranks will probably be too long.
Chorus is excellent.
What has caused the 1cm square paint lift?
Of most importance is the frame the correct size for you??? -
• #11
What does c96 mean specifically is that just the material/design combo - I know it's Thron Super tubing. Anything I can do re: blisters. The pic shows the full extent of them. Also, any idea of value; what would make it a good buy provided it's all kosher and needs no work? Not looking to sell or profit but can't afford to lose if I don't get on with it?
Thanks -
• #12
Yeah - the legs in the pic are NOT my little legs. The bike is my size; I'm a touch taller than the previous owner (now deceased hence it not being ridden for 6 years) and an inch or so smaller than my pal who opined that was JUST too small for him. No idea re paint lift - it's covered with the paint itself and insulator tape

I sold one a couple of years back for ÂŁ700, it rode well, not light tho if that means anything to you... the frame may be older than the groupset with curved forks?
yep bar setup is silly stupid wrong! :) -
• #14
Good to hear- can't afford to lose on it. Can have it for ÂŁ400 - but will perhaps offer ÂŁ350 (and a morning's labour) plus the guarantee that it's purchased with a view to enjoy and ride and if/when passed on the same 'gentlemens caveat' will apply.

Put all black modern parts on it and ride the hell out of it. You'll get your money back in the future. So its basically free.
-
• #16
Please don't do this ^

The gruppo is definitely from this millennium as it's 10 speed and has these fancy hidden bolt brakes.

Boring
-
• #19
b̶o̶r̶i̶n̶g̶ refined
-
• #20
That's ironic. Modern parts and carbon offer better performace. I'd say that's "refined".
Period correct is just boring. -
• #21
Well he should just buy a carbon frame instead then, shouldn't he.
Also, not quite sure you've used 'ironic' correctly.
-
• #22
Irony - the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite.
Period correct being refined is ironic. Unless you're not using "refined" correctly...
-
• #23
Now now ladies...
Appreciate both your opinions
-
• #24
Who said the words 'period correct'? You've just made that up in your head.
Also: Refined
- elegant and cultured in appearance, manner, or taste.
- developed or improved so as to be precise or subtle.
There is nothing elegant, cultured, tasteful, or subtle about putting 50mm Chinese carbon, unmatched forks, and a black ARX stem on a beautiful old steel decor.
- elegant and cultured in appearance, manner, or taste.

Haha you’re angry.
Developed or improved was the version I was going for though admittedly you meant the elegant side of things.
However you too have made some quotes up. I never said 50mm carbons and a 3T Arx. I just said all black modern parts.
Anyhow, bike should be built to it’s owners tastes. I was just throwing in a suggestion.
Hi - I've got an opportunity to purchase this bike - a friend who's a purist and proficient cyclist (previously very good amateur) says it rides beautifully and is set up lovely.
I've got it on loan to try out as this evening I'm going to get a competent 'tinkerer' to check over the drive train etc and ensure its in good mechanical order.
What are people's thoughts on 1) The virtues of owning and riding this bike and
2) it's realistic desirability and value should I not get in with it or want to move it on at some point?
Colnago Decor
Record/chorus components
Open Pro on chorus hubs (I think)
Few small flecks of rust (some will polish away) and a single square cm paint lift on top tube
A few tiny non-grouped pain bubbles
Any info/thoughts greatly appreciated.
