  • It is a lovely part of the world.

This reminds me, I always thought Shirley Toulson's book on the drovers' roads of Wales (printed about 40 years back now) would be a great inspiration for some off / on road routes. I'll have to dig out my copy

  • I got the impression there were numerous side routes that would be fun to explore with more time.
Just noticed that the main image for the 'this is not a tour' rides is the same view over Barmouth http://tinat.cymru

  • Indeed thank you Mike Hall what inspired me last year for this route.

  • The gates lots of them left me a bit sad.

  • @ad441 nice one, well jel. Glad the files helped :) I remember getting to the point where we'd have to choose with @Ruserius during the ride; we decided that for this time discretion was the better part of valour but then were quite envious when looking at @fussballclub 's pictures at Dolgellau! I'll be back.

  • Worked perfectly thank you.
It'd take a rider faster than me to be able to do that section as part of bcm. The gravel section is relatively short but it's hard to do fast - the descent even more than the climb. Plus there are a lot of gates.
Also hard not to stop to take photos every 2 mins.

Easier if it's the usual Welsh visibility of a few yards.

  • Chiltern Churner yesterday. ~240k and some AAA points.
Paul sent me back a GPX "Please find attached a gpx file to support a AAA claim."
Do I send this to some kind of AAA organiser?

  • Send it to the AAA secretary: http://www.aukweb.net/official/contacts/ and scroll down a bit

  • Thanks

Actually, I just noticed he emailed it to me and the email address: AAA at audax.uk

    Is that enough?

  • I'm coming for you, 100 points!

  • Should be. Keep an eye on your results page - you'll get the points for the distance first, then the AAAs later.

  • Cheers

Saw that Henley Hilly was last season, doh! 1.75 points wasted :)

  • Anyone know any good Perms or perhaps previously used DIY routes near Minehead / Exmoor?

The missus found these two that go near it. Any others?
    Devon and Somerset 100
    Exmoor and Coast 200

Can't help with that area (IanH's rides are probably the nearest: http://www.ukcyclist.co.uk/permanent-routes ) but AUK has been talking about a website redesign for ages, one of the items suggested was something to solve this issue. Ideally you'd be able to zoom in on a map of the UK and see the routes of all of the nearby rides (applying appropriate distance/hilliness filters) which link to the appropriate organiser/perm entry.

Right now finding Perm and Calendar rides is almost as obfuscated as TT course codes.

  • Valley of the Rocks is available as a perm and goes over Exmoor (http://www.aukweb.net/perms/detail/IH08/ - http://www.ukcyclist.co.uk/permanent-routes/20-valley-of-the-rocks-200)

    Looks bloody tough though

  • I have purchased some 'virtual' brevets and am currently trying to work out a flattish November-friendly 200k DIY in the Brizzle area. Extending the Jack and Grace Cotton 100k towards Tewkesbury looks promising, but will involve a lot of faffing through Gloucester

  • No, it's worse. At least I know a H code TT course is in West London or an E course is over near Cambridge. The Perm list is just made up names, some of which may contain a place I've never heard of. #forruns

The new CTT site also has maps of many of the courses.

I don't know why I'm sticking up for CTT but it's definitely easier than find a Perm in a specific area.

Like why do Cambrian series come up when I choose South West but not when I choose Wales?!

  • Like why do Cambrian series come up when I choose South West but not when I choose Wales?!

Region search is done on the Org's address (he's in Basingrad).

  • Well that makes total sense. :P

  • I just racked my brains and remembered there was this 100k route starting from Minehead

    https://ridewithgps.com/routes/7391287

  • Last time I rode up that way I took the A38 to Hardwicke then B4008/Bristol Road, A4301, St Oswalds Road, Gouda Way, A430/Kingsholm Way and back onto the A38/Tewkesbury Road. A bit main roady south of Gloucester, but OK. Didn't like the A38 N of Glos though, would head out to Hartpury and Ashleworth next time.

  • Probably going to have the missus with me so lumpy 200 might be a bit much.

    Ooh, map of Perms: http://www.aukweb.net/perms/map/
