  • Amen to that. They seem to either be getting abused or collected though, so can only seem to find battered ones or minty stuff.

  • Love a Dakar rep/parody:

  • I know full well I'd never get it near dirt.

If I had any modicum of skill I'd have a go at doing something like this to my Transalp

  • Servicing a CBF600 / winter maintenance

Anything I should keep an eye on or do myself?

    Oil/coolants/spark plugs?

  • I'm hopefully picking up a new ride this weekend - getting back on the engine oil now that I've sacked off London.

Insurance quotes are coming through with Hastings Direct as cheapest. Any horror stories from the LFGSS hive mind?

  • I've never had a claim before, MCE offered breakdown cover included, which is why I went with them.
(Came in handy when I got a pnctre in the summer)

  • Thanks for the SH300 advice - she's 'won' a tidy looking bike on Ebay - going to pick up from Bedford tomorrow. She's just ordered a dirty great Almax chain and lock and will be learning to love lamposts.

  • I suggest, Double box or single box with thick bubble wrap. I've posted a few helmets like this without a problem. Imagine if you will that if the helmet is 'floating' inside then it won't be affected if the box is dropped. Like a bone china teacup in a large box surrounded by bubbles.

  • Depends what was last done when.

But If you’re riding in winter, ACF50 it when done.

Check all consumables and line up parts. Check torque values on important bolts too. Then whatever actually needs doing.

  • Give it a go. I know I've got the proselytizing verve of the newly evanglised but riding off road just makes all other riding feel a bit boring. Generally a softer landing for the inevitable fangles too.

  • Good news. I hate locking my bike with a chain but I need a few years without a claim for theft to be able to afford the insurance!

Been riding the SH a bit this week, really refined scooter. You do need to exercise a little self control with the throttle in town though.

Hope it goes well for you and the missus tomorrow.

  • Pcx125 is probably the best 125 city capable scooter out there, borrowed one on plenty of occasions and get surprised by how much speed you are carrying, big wheels and better than most suspension and just the right amount of wind protection for urban ridibg (<50mph)

  • Steer
    The fuck
    Away
    From mce *

*From extensive personal and many close mates numerous ridiculous encounters with that "company"

Certainly for domestic policy, for business policy, much better. Please read up on them before committibg yourself to endless torture

  • Their quote was over double what I had from Hastings, so a particular shame to hear that, you’d think more money in would give a better service. For a sub£600 bike though I’m not gonna pay up the MCE price anyway, excess was the same as bike value

  • As far as I see it now. Only go with MCE if you're only paying for third party. For anything worth anything, go with someone else.
I got fucked pretty hard by them and have learnt my lesson.

  • I've used Bennett's and was pretty satisfied with their response when my bike got nicked.

  • Having spent along weekend in Paris, I've grown a bit of a soft spot for the yamaha xmax,

never thought I'd like a big scooter, but the dream of a cafe racer isn't getting any closer and I'm thinking I'd like to use the motorcycle gear that has been gathering dust for the last couple of years.
Any other suggestions for maxi scooters??

  • X-adv looks a hoot

  • We hired a Suzuki Burgman once which was awesome. I think it was a 600 so was plenty quick and had as much storage space as some cars.

  • So I got drafted into riding the mean machine back from Bedford yesterday.

Rode the A1 most of the way as I was in a bit of a rush. What a laugh. Easy 70 mph cruising, floaty but controlled suspension and enough poke for confident overtakes. I turned off by horseshit bridge and went up Galley Lane for a bit of B road action too - much fun. Didn't quite get the ABS to kick in...

Not bad for something that looks so small and innocuous. Bloody marvellous condition and mileage for £2k. Just got to make sure it doesn't get nicked now.

  • Corny - see if @jd will let you have a go on his whale. He's loving it.

We had a 500cc X9 for a bit - was quite fun on open roads but a total liability filtering - like paddling a big canoe through traffic. Xmax looks a bit nippier.

  • I'm a bit tired of using my bike (gt550) to commute at the moment, too much faffing and crappy a24 into town so looking at the Honda forza 300 as the next bike

  • I've been thinking about getting a little scooter for commuting on. Was thinking along the lines of a Honda Cub or an imported Mobylette. Then I started looking at electric things, which are mostly very plasticky fragile looking.
Then I found this, which I love, but £8000 is a bit on the steep side!

I'm sure the combined talents of the forum could come up with something similar for way cheaper...

  • Rode the 150cc semi auto of that through Thai countryside. Not sure anything has been as fun since. Full throttle smash through gears hilarity up mountains.

@Bad_Science Upcoming electric Brompton. I know, wrong thread, but electric stuff with number plates has yet to pick up style points.
