  • @Olly398 those Orients look great, thanks for the link.

@Tenderloin also good, although looks to be sold now. Will keep an eye out for similar. Cheers

  • It's the Rolex Oyster Perpetual reference 114300. Think it's somewhere <$5k. No idea what kind of discounts you can get.

Honestly it seems like the Goldielocks of "nice watches". Modern bracelet, WR to 100m double lock crown, steel "tool" meets "dress" watch (shudders at terms), thin enough for a shirt, goes with a suit or jeans, timeless size, etc.

The only downsides are whether it's a bit dull/3 series and getting a complex over snobs cracking fisherprice my first Rolex jokes.

  • It’s the one of the few Rolex that exhibits a hint of fun with the coloured hour markers. Worth showing the other two colours, as the rhodium is fairly conservative:

At 39mm, it’s basically an Explorer with a different dial, hands and clasp.

  • The olive one is nice.

  • Advice/Ideas please:

My dads 60th in April and we (my 3 sisters and I) were wanting to get him a half decent present to celebrate the occasion. He's an appriciator of nice watches and despite saying he was going to treat himself to one over the years it's never happened. He has an early Christopher Ward that he's worn to death and a CWC G10 that he loves and currently wears but I thought that a nice understated automatic could be a good gift. Currently our budget stands at a fairly modest $1000ish CAD. The only thing I've thought of this far is a Hamilton Khaki Field. He likes tooly/military inspired watches and I know that if we had the budget we'd probably be getting him a Speedy Professional but we can't stretch to that. I've also thought about the whole birth yer watch but know that'll be a whole lot harder and possibly out of our budget.

    Ideas and pointers welcome! Thanks.

  • Longines Hydroconquest, oris aquis, sinn104, tag aquaracer

all around the 1000 mark new.

  • My standard Casio G Shock MT-G response.
Not sure what the MapleMoney cost is but I paid £800 for mine

  • My standard Casio G Shock MT-G response.

It's not refined at all, and is never what I want to wear for appearance.

    But I love mine.

There is something about a watch that is always ready, always correct time, never needs maintaining, always running, durable as hell... and yet has analogue hands.

I wear my G-Shock MT-G more than any other watch. For every 1 day I wear my Sinn I wear the G-Shock for a month or more.

I haven't purchased another nice watch because I can't imagine not grabbing the G-Shock.

    They're not pretty though.

  • Beauty is on the eye of the beholder and all that.

I was focusing on the tool/military aspect of the request.

Plenty of colour choices now as well, I have the silver which dresses up nicer than say the antique bronze variant.

  • Digital AND analogue on the SAME face.

    I can't handle that shit.

  • ?

  • Oh well I'll just eat my shorts. 😎

  • Some probably are AniDigi

  • Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll look into the Longines & Sinn and see if I can find any examples of them over here in budget.

The G-Shock would be a good shout in terms of being the ultimate tool watch but it's far too modern looking for him. He's into classic motorsport, military history and aviation so I was trying to think of more of brands that have that kind of history/heritage behind them. Obviously not easy with a small budget but I'll d some searching.

Alternatively, if i could find a nice Omega Seamaster (pie plate dial) from the 60's this could be another avenue to go down. I'm just wary of buing something that it isn't from an antiques market/ebay etc.

  • CWC?

    https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/cwc-the-watch-that-replaced-the-milsub

Auto version of the GB military issue quartz version. Cool story

  • Faux-tina cause much outrage. All about the murdered-out no-date. I need dis.

  • Worth checking out what Timefactors have available.

  • ^ Was just about to suggest that. probably best bang for buck on a new watch of that style

  • I'm not a watch person. I've always bought the cheapest, simplest watch I could - see first pic. The Casio here cost £5. Now suddenly I'm thinking I should invest in something a little better looking. So I quite like these common watches (2nd pic) but still I've not found anything I really like. I don't like the complex and I don't like the super minimal. Surely there's something out there for me?

  • What about these [http://www.belmoto.gt/watches], they are the more old style brand of Magrette watches in New Zealand (http://www.belmoto.gt/watches)

  • Belmoto follows a code. Be yourself. Work for yourself. Race to the end. Fight for the strong finish. Build a life of pleasure earned through passion and pain. Get out in front of the fight. Love as fast and as hard as you drive. There is no competition. Are you character driven?

    Haha.

  • God, I'd not read that toss, looks like they used an alpha male, git random word generator

  • Aevig have a sale on. Trying to decide between the Balaur and the Balaur SE
