  • I'm fitting an old wheel to a modern beater. The vintage rim has angled sidewalls with minimal wear. I intend to use it with a modern shimano caliper (R451). If I understand correctly, Sheldon says angled rim and rim brakes should be avoided - I feel he may be exaggerating, but I have never gone against his advice before, so I turn to you LFGSS. Is this going to work fine?

  • "Up through the 1970s, though, most rims had angled sidewalls."

They weren't using discs back then, you'll be fine.
