It's a marketing gimmick, Aqua Blue were struggling for a big cash sponsor. There was talk about some kind of 'new' approach to team / sponsor, I assumed it just meant the sponsor would pay more but have more control.

Ah, so they will ride with fd's you think? The trick worked anyhow, I saw it at a few Dutch and Belgian sites and social media channels

No, the frames can't even take front derailleurs. The marketing gimmick is them riding those frames at all.
