What's an acceptable amount of play in the rear triangle hinge? 2-3mm? Or none whatsoever?

Non at all, I have seen Brompton that had massive play and still managed to bring it back, worse case scenario is a new rear triangle.

Hmmm, I have about 6-8mm at the wheel end, I might have to try to get this to you once your workshop eases up a bit. Bike has now done about 2,500 miles in 15 months, and I wouldn't exactly say I take it easy commuting across London on it.
