  • Eh, I always just make a big clever dripper, so it fills my 12oz flask 👌 The universe it telling you to drink more coffee!

  • Looks good. I thought C&H might mean the comic, but just cold & hot!

  • I'm trying to cut down!

  • In other news, Americano ratios. What do folks here do?

Shops typically add way too much water. I'm a fan of 1:2 espresso:water. Found out today 1:1 ratio is called Italiano which already sounds way cooler.

  • For anyone looking to step up their moka pot game, here's a good guide from a past Caffeine mag

  • Awesome. Might give that a go this weekend for a change.

  • @StevePeel

I was going to re order some espresso from the shop. Is the discount code still going? And if so, where does one enter it?

    EDIT -
Ignore me, I've worked it out. Cheers, Tom

  • Don't agree with everything in there (for instance, I only fill my Brikka pot halfway to the fill line, yet the stainless pot I max out) but still very interesting, thanks for posting that.

  • Anyone here know any food stylists that specialise in coffee?

I'm looking at a certain lurky photographer if you're reading this...

  • I run a coffee account on Instagram London_baristas focusing on Baristas, Coffee Shops and Coffee Photography.

If there’s anything I can do to help let me know

  • DunneFrankowski?

  • Tried the Nicaraguan coffee. Fantastic. Would highly recommend

  • Can anyone recommend some decent coffee on the cheaper end of the spectrum for the homeless shelter I volunteer at? We make 3 1L french press at a time and that lasts the evening, and then another batch of 3 1L in the morning with breakfast. Now I'm done improving and optimising the dinner and breakfast process (buzzwords thread>>>>>>) I can focus on the coffee.

It's all about trying to keep the costs the same or even get them lower, but provide a better service.

Step 1 definitely was getting people to follow a good coffee recipe. As much as people were reluctant to do that, "I've been drinking coffee for years, you don't need to tell me how to make it", I did manage to convince the majority of volunteers to give it a try.

Step 2 is getting beans ground specifically for french press rather than just generic "ground coffee". I'm not too worried about buying expensive, speciality coffee, but without access to a pro size grinder, I can't even buy 1kg of cheap beans and grind them for french press.

So where should I go? Who does coffee at not too much more than supermarket prices?

  • Is there some big coffee chain that would donate their stuff to you? Wasn't (insert generic sandwich shop chain here) doing it with their food?

  • Def worth a shout. Pret is the one and their store managers have 'some' capacity to dish stuff out for free sporadically or worth contacting their hq for something more regular.

  • Maybe speak to Gavin at Fields Beneath?

  • @StevePeel is there a minimum order for your coffee, and is it possible to have it sent out ground for pour-over?

  • No, no minimum order and grinding it is no problem. Take a look at the website http://www.yellowbourbon.co.uk
    Cheers

  • Has anyone use an Oomph brewer?
I like a coffee gadget for work, and am trying to complied a Christmas list for the in-laws.

  • What’s the best cheap hand grinder? I’ve got an electric burr one at home but would like one to use at work to save me grinding and taking in.

  • I have a hario number that does the job.
    Mini mill slim I think?

  • My partner works in a roastery and he's quite fussy about his coffee at home,
so we bought this grinder which is not too expensive (compared to a commercial grinder) and gives you a good grind! https://www.baratza.com/grinder/encore/

If you want I can give you his email and maybe he can give you some advice?

  • Thanks for getting my coffee out so fast Steve, arrived in a day!

My second order, hammered through the first lot, absolutely love the Hermosa Premium, just enjoyed the Las Acacias this morning.
