Surprised it fucked the plug and socket. If the socket had a 13amp fuse in it then that should have taken care of any larger current.
Might not have hit it hard enough, just got warm enough over time to melt everything slowly?
engineer who came round to look at cooker said the socket wasn't drawing any power... I assume the socket has a fuse in it that needs replacing, but I've never taken it apart, hence the need for an electrician..
Unless they didn't install it with the correct clearance and it's the heat from the actual oven that's fucking up the plug and socket.
