  • I'm in two minds about it. I get where you are coming from, but at the same time, if I made an offer on a place and then the EA when running around calling everyone who has ever viewed to try and get them to make a better offer I'd be pretty pissed off.

  • It's partly their job though, they are acting to get the best price/deal for the seller. So when I expressed significant interest, as in making it clear I'm ready to bid, I expect to be kept informed.

I mean, of course, they can't go around saying Mr X offered £xxxxxx, but just communicate what's happening.

edit - i'm not looking to gazump folk, to be clear, this was a case of the vendor considering an offer, it wasn't straight up accepted and off the market. I see that as the difference between 'under offer' and 'sold subject to contract'.

  • Just make an offer next time. That will get their attention.

  • they can't go around saying Mr X offered £xxxxxx

    Sure they can.

    Otherwise what?

    Agent: We've had another offer.
    Hairingtons: OK, how much?
    Agent: Not telling.
    Hairingtons: OK, I offer £1,000,000
    Agent: No, that's not enough.
    Hairingtons: £1,100,000?
    Agent: Nope.
    Hairingtons: £1,150,000?
    Agent: Nope.
    Hairingtons: £1,175,000?
    Agent: Yeah, that's better.
Hairingtons: So the other people offered somewhere between £1,150,000 and £1,175,000 then?
    Agent: Not telling.
    Hairingtons: U R a tit.
