What is this blocky map thing?
-

It's on Veloviewer (which pulls everything from your Strava account).
To import your full Strava history it's £10 for a year.

Similar here. I've got GPX files for most of my Audaxes from mid-2008, so only missing a few from before that. Since then my only non-Audax riding is Richmond Park, Surrey Hills and commuting, which is all over the same old roads.
Hopefully this will get me out and about a bit more and add a bit of variation.

I was thinking about this on the weekend - are there any rides close to west London that would let me boost my AAA total if I try and get 100 points?
No idea of any Perms but it's easy to bimble to/from the Surrey Hills and follow the CTC Hilly 50 route (the bit to/from Box Hill & WestHumble station): https://www.strava.com/activities/693480998 Just need to tweak the DIY route to make sure you get over 1000m climbing.
For W London you'd probably be quicker to just head out towards the Chilterns and create some DIY route that kept criss-crossing the ridges (like the second half of the Nycto). 1.25 or 1.5AAA per 100km is easily possible.

Westerley might have done it for me..

I don't necessarily think 324 3/4 points isn't audacious - that's still a lot of riding. I'm acutely aware that my tactic of a lot of 200s could be seen from some as not that too audacious (my only saving grace is there will be an SR attempt)
The Allrounder award is a good compromise.I'd like to think I'm going to do this solely with BR and BRM rides, but I do really quite enjoy 100s. HoTSH for example was a quality ride.
100AAA is still 100AAA though, however which way it's done. And 324 3/4 is insane.

It'd be a lot bloody easier to do if you lived anywhere other than London.

300+ AAA points using mostly 50km and 100km events is still audacious, but some argued it's not what the original AAA award was created to recognise.
The common problem with the various awards and competitions within Audax (which is, for the bulk of it, non-competitive) is that some people will be in a position such that they can put the record beyond pretty much everyone else. However, for the majority of people the points are there to encourage and push themselves, so the competitive nature does help further the goal of getting people to do more long distance cycling.
Many people wondered if Steve A was going to enter his rides as DIY Audaxes but he made a decision not to. It would have only added extra pressure and admin, and would have prevented him from doing his now preferred loops of the TT circuit South of MK. But 300km a day for 365 days would have been 1095 points!

Now that would be something - 1000+ points.

So far as getting to hills is concerned, maybe.
I meant the physical act of grunting up 100,000m of hills.

Anyone know when results are expected to show up on the website for this season?
-
• #7039
Usually takes a bit of time, I would imagine they will be up by the reunion as that is where the awards for the last season are given.
-
• #7040
Real Soon Now. (It's usually a month or so after the season starts.)
For some reason all of the results from the previous season have to be added before some internal switch is thrown and results from the current season can be added, otherwise the last season's results get added to this season.
I can't even begin to imagine what utter goblinry lurks beneath the surface of the existing AUK website. It's the product of hacks and bodges on top of hacks and bodges all powered by a select bunch of volunteers. (Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for their time and efforts on it, but hopefully the proposed redevelopment will be done by some professionals - it's not as if AUK is strapped for cash...)

Cool, thanks

If you've ridden any perms, they can be seen as provisional under that ride last year.

Loosely audax related - I was in Wales near Cenmaes for half term last week and managed to get out for a ride on the one dry day of the week. Did the BCM alternate Mike Hall gravel detour which was amazing - the road part was a huge improvement over the usual BCM route to Dolgellau and the gravel part was great though slightly challenging on 30mm tyres. I then came back via the usual BCM route which is a bit busy later in the day, though it's nice to do the massive descent near Mallyd without being sleep deprived. Anyway, I highly recommend it. Particuarly without the stress of audax time limits. I presume the gravel section is in those 'not a tour' audaxes next year. Thanks to (if I remember correctly) @cgg whose rwgps account I found the route in.

No mudguards, you filthy beast!
-
• #7045
Took them off beforehand on the basis that I wanted to ride offroad a bit. Which was definitely the right decision - I don't think they'd have survived the rougher bits of the descent to Dolgellau. I was close to pushing on some of it.
-
• #7046
Just joshing. I hate mudguards. Looks a bit soggy though. I'm sure my TT bike will be fine through that...
-
• #7047
Is that the cycle route that approaches Dolgellau from the SW? Looks great! Last time I went over there I was on my MTB and it was fairly straightforward so it's good to know it's rideable on skinny tyres.
-
• #7048
Yes I think so anyway - I presume there are loads of alternate routes round there. It was the section north of Machynlleth on this one https://ridewithgps.com/routes/25591626
.
The roads leading up to the offroad bit are amazing as well.
It's only just rideable on skinny tyres... (if 30mm S-Ones count as skinny). Most of it is fine, but it took my speed down a lot on some of the descents. But then the road bit beforehand would be less fun on bigger tyres. -

"average of just under four AAA rides a week going for eleven months until he'd beaten the record"
Simon Roberts 324¾
I haven't got time for that kind of nonsense.
