  • Also Easts. Cant do this week. Le sigh. Doing HIIT. Can't imagine anything less fun.

  • What was that chippy under the arches at Charing X/Embankment - used animal fat - 1980s and gone now I'm sure - Bobbys Fish Bar ?
    Famously good.

  • Doing HIIT Playing PUBG

  • The bucket and spade café on the prom in Roker. Not handy but if you're passing that way, say riding London to Edinburgh, you should drop in. I don't know how they do it but their chips, generously salt n vinegar'd are to die for. Maybe it's the contrast of tongue-scorchingly hot chips and the icy face blast off the North Sea that does it.

  • Black cat cafe in lower Clapton/hackney central does really good battered vegan ‘fish’ too.

  • I was pleasantly surprised by Hashtag Fish and Chips on Green Lanes (opposite the Arena shopping centre just up from Finsbury Park).

I'd resisted going there for quite a while due to the atrocious name but finally gave in and had some of the best fish and chips I've had in London (although obviously not up there with fish and chips in Cleethorpes on a freezing Tuesday night).

  • fish and chips in Cleethorpes on a freezing Tuesday night).....

    Oh yesssss!!!!!

  • Cleethorpes !
Never thought I'd hear Cleethorpes mentioned in a London cycling place.
I lived there until 15 years old but yeah freezing dark nights with a sixpence bag of chips n batter bits after releasing cod from the set lines in the Humber creek and some 'rowing boats' from the boating lake mid winter ... :)
you don't need salt - its in the air that you breath ..

    sorry >>>>> old age thread

  • Oh amazing. Thanks the the tip. Will visit.

  • @gypoben is from those parts too. Pleasant part of the world imo.

  • Best fish'n'chips is fried in dripping.

Good one in Hebden Bridge by the river.

There was an amazing one in Bradford run by two 60something Polish Ladies. Only opened for 2 hours at lunchtime Mon-Fri. Must of passed away by now.

  • I went up there recently - it felt a bit ...

  • The Turk’s Head in St.Agnes does a good fish and chips but it’s a bit far.

Anyone tried the one on Forrest Road near Blackhorse Rd station?

  • On an audax or training ride and heading into a random chippie in a random town (so random I forget where it was) and seeing @Greasy_Slag 'behind the bar". That was a great time in my f&c life.

  • In a dense cloud camping high up Castleton High Peak freezing damp and a Chip Van turns up in the field .
    Time and place .

  • Which is the one in Hebden? I tend to visit there a few times a year.

  • ??

  • Not a fan. I got to f&c shops for fish and chips, not nuggets, not burgers, not sausages, no chiko rolls.

UK Exceptions - if the fish is shit or they're out I've bought a pie
OZ Exceptions - potato cakes and dim sims ftfw!

  • I'm guessing dim sims & seafood extender are out of the question then.

  • Err..

    dim sims ftfw!

No idea what seafood extender is but it doesn't sound good.

  • It's probably an Adelaide thing, sort of like crab stick type stuff in a creamy sauce. It sounds like crap I know, but it's quite good to my awful taste buds.

  • Big Catch in Beckenham - Lovely.

  • The Wee Hurrie in Troon. Bit of a trip from London, but the fish and chips are good.

  • that sounds good !
