  • I don't know how you would get to 100 AAA points, I'm not even sure I could manage 100 points around normal life!

There was great frothing discussion about the AAA points record over at yacf a few years ago, with people worried that the AAA record would be taken by someone doing lots of short rides instead of rewarding those that do long hilly rides.

Someone presented a plan of a DIY 50 (although it was a bit over distance, maybe 65km) in the Surrey Hills that was 1AAA. Short enough to be ridden two or three times a week before or after work and that's 3AAA/week before you even think of a weekend ride. Not particularly audacious, especially if you live close enough to lessen the impact on life.

50 AUK points was more than enough for me (even before children). I think my highest since has been 27 (which was a bare minimum of 5 rides: an SR and PBP in 2011) and most years now it is just 4 points!

  • I was thinking about this on the weekend - are there any rides close to west London that would let me boost my AAA total if I try and get 100 points?

Missed the boat on October's RRtY start but then I realised if I race TABR I won't be able to do it anyway!

    What is the AAA record?

No idea of any Perms but it's easy to bimble to/from the Surrey Hills and follow the CTC Hilly 50 route (the bit to/from Box Hill & WestHumble station): https://www.strava.com/activities/693480998 Just need to tweak the DIY route to make sure you get over 1000m climbing.

For W London you'd probably be quicker to just head out towards the Chilterns and create some DIY route that kept criss-crossing the ridges (like the second half of the Nycto). 1.25 or 1.5AAA per 100km is easily possible.
