There was great frothing discussion about the AAA points record over at yacf a few years ago, with people worried that the AAA record would be taken by someone doing lots of short rides instead of rewarding those that do long hilly rides.
Someone presented a plan of a DIY 50 (although it was a bit over distance, maybe 65km) in the Surrey Hills that was 1AAA. Short enough to be ridden two or three times a week before or after work and that's 3AAA/week before you even think of a weekend ride. Not particularly audacious, especially if you live close enough to lessen the impact on life.
50 AUK points was more than enough for me (even before children). I think my highest since has been 27 (which was a bare minimum of 5 rides: an SR and PBP in 2011) and most years now it is just 4 points!
