so last birthday I asked eldest daughter to create a .gif for me.
Moth tranforming into a bicycle.. it's finally arrived and i love it
but its not appearing as my avatar, can anyone help please.

Gifs have to be tiny to be accepted as an avatar. By tiny, I mean less than 4KB.

This restriction is by design, avatars appear on so many pages and unlike a picture thread where people are choosing to see large images, avatars on every thread. Threads should work on shitty mobile networks in the back end of some remote place, and so avatars are restricted to a really small size. It's big enough to enable a photo quality avatar or a simple animated gif, but not big enough to allow large photos (which we'll forcibly resize) or large/lengthy gifs (which will just be rejected).

@almac68 there are simple websites with built in tools to re-size things but they can lower quality quite dramatically depending on settings. The easiest GIFs to resize are ones where elements of the picture remain the same so there's less to change from frame to frame.

The attached is 2kb and is mainly reduced in file size by changing the frame size to 10% of the original. Might work as an avatar given size but prob worth tinkering with to get a middle ground that's visually acceptable and doesn't waste your daughter's handiwork.
